I find it unfortunate that my perception of people who speak in the third person is that they are simple-minded. It's something I cannot seem to shake, and it started a long time before chatrooms and the internet. Someone made a remark once that slash-speak is necessary because 'it is the only way to identify people'. Uh, yeah. Because I would have NO IDEA who was talking or typing by any other means. Yeah. Any who've read my profile know my opinion of the pronoun game. The only thing I dislike more than the pronoun game is the abuse of "chatspeak". Both are caning offenses in my not so humble opinion. The pronoun game gets a rump-reddening. Chatspeak abuse gets a session of bastinado.

What are Y/you A/all talking about? i think this is a wonderful opportunity to speak on this valuable subject. Writing like this shows respect to Masters and Mistresses but lets us subs/slaves show our obedience whereas if my Master wanted me to talk about O/our experiences then i would out of respect to Him. [;)] just kidding :-) sometimes.

I despise all the Y/you-ing... It really annoys me. I've had Doms ask me to type "You" when I refer to them... even in the middle of a sentance... Worse is being asked to speak in third person, but that's easier when I am refused the use of my name. For some reason typing "She" and "her" is easier than typing my name third-person all the time. But, yes, this grates my nerves like nothing else.

~Fast Reply~ I don't use slashs, I don't use a lower-case "I" and, for the most part, I simply don't communicate with anyone who feels the need to type "Y/you" when refering to Valyraen and I. It disrespects his wishes on several levels, one being that he does not any uppercase letters not dictated by the English language.

It wouldn't be a punishment if you liked it. There's a big difference between punishment and play. On the other hand (pun intended of course) if you ever felt the need to have a reddened pattern on your posterior which coincidentally is identical to the meatpaddle that issues from my wrist ... there's always a place over my knee for you. ;-)

After all, it was started by the english as a way of being able to pinpoint which clans were the troublemakers. Before then, the only thing that dictated colour and pattern were the dyes that were available in any specific region. Yes yes, some patterns were for the high families only. But that was due to them being able to afford the expensive dyes. Once I've found enough yardage of good tigerstripe patterned cloth, I'm having a friend make me a kilt from that. Another lil thumbing my nose at tradition as well as giving a lil shoutout to one of the nicknames the Katusas called me in Korea. (- "Ogres" in korean legends were large, paleskinned, red or gold haired monsters who wore tiger hides as their clothing. -)

~FR~ NO! That is my short answer. The longer version is that I have returned messages here writing as I would to anyone to be told I am not a Dominant as I do not cap myself. I think in the old old yahoo Dungeon days it served it's purpose as caps weren't/aren't allowed in screen names. Though even then I am referring to screen names and the capping of ''I'' or not. Just my opinion and a quick sleepy thought.

i don't capitilize my i's out of habit i've been doing that for years long before i found out i was a sub and the capitilization of the H's are from the fact that my ex master had me do it and it became habit... same thing with the dots its a weird thing i do .........

It's interesting that this pops up, as I just had a conversation with a prospective Dom about this...he threatened me with punishment because I chose to send an e-mail with proper grammar and use of capital letters. As far as I'm concerned, the slash thing, the captal letters, the lower case letters really don't signify any sense of domination or submission......I show my respect by my actions, NOT my correspondence! All in all, it seems a little childish that some people place that much importance on pixels.......
