Scientists think they have figured out why pregnant women don't lose their balance and topple over despite ever-growing weight up front. Evolution provided them with slight differences from men in their lower backs and hip joints, allowing them to adjust their center of gravity, new research shows.

This elegant engineering is seen only in female humans and our immediate ancestors who walked on two feet, but not in chimps and apes, according to a study published in Thursday's journal Nature.

"That's a big load that's pulling you forward," said Liza Shapiro, an anthropology professor at the University of Texas and the only one of the study's three authors who has actually been pregnant. "You experience discomfort. Maybe it would be a lot worse if (the design changes) were not there."

Gawd I loved being pregnant. I loved the way it felt, I loved the way it looked.

Interesting story, Level, it reminded me of how I needed a step built and placed in front of the kitchen sink, to get my belly up over the edge, so that I could reach without bending over so much, to wash dishes.

Ah yes, good times… good times. :)

trouble is though, they do fall down - like my mom when she was cooking up number three, who fell forwards and smashed her front teeth out on the foundations for the garage my dad was building at the time.

To this day, I've never heard shrieking like it. My brother and I were sent to the neighbour's whilst my dad took her to hospital. We had milky coffee for the first time. My mom got some new teeth drilled into what was left of her own.

And there's the bottom thing to factor in too of course.

Taking HRT, my bottom has become more female in shape and larger. For one thing, this has made dancing very much easier, acting I believe as a sort of weight whereby a satisfactory motion can be induced and maintained more easily by way of an action alike with a pendulum.

Butt, I would venture it also acts as a counter weight to developments up front, preventing tipping forward.

I suggest that we undertake some serious research into this, for which volunteers will be needed, to make and collate measurements of ladies' bodies. Anyone interested in taking part?

Pregnant women should fasten slinkys to their stomach and ass. When they fall, they will bounce right back up. And hopefully those stupid slinkys won't tangle so quickly either.
