I'm active on a forum where they do this. So, we repeat "Read the stickies" all the time. Seems to me like us saying "do a search" is the same thing. The one thing that DOES work on that small forum is that your first post is supposed to be an introduction....so people can respond and tell you to read the stickies right off the bat. That won't work here...the forum is too big.
I'd be all for it...might even be willing to write for it...if I thought it'd work. People don't read profiles...and they ain't gonna read stickies...in my opinion.
