once you get passed it- you will notice the smoke on your clothes walls etc.  ^hands you a piece of gum^

childoftheshadow -> RE: I've quit smoking . . . heeeeeelp (12/14/2007 12:20:28 PM)

I'm on my 4th smoke free day and when I put my jacket on this morning I could smell it . . . I was nearly ill. I guess that's a good sign.

have to say, I'm a little bit proud of me . . . even though I may well kill someone before it's all over

TMaster2 -> RE: I've quit smoking . . . heeeeeelp (12/14/2007 12:29:13 PM)

wow, good for you!  missfit and I are on our... lemme count... 17th day without a cig.  I'm chewing the hell outta nicorette gum and commit lozenges, but with their help and my music to distract me, I'm not having near the trouble I've had in the past.  (I started smoking about 1970, so I've had numerous episodes of quiting in all those years.)  I got it licked this time ;)

Keep it up, don't give in, you will too!

pahunkboy -> RE: I've quit smoking . . . heeeeeelp (12/14/2007 12:29:59 PM)

Taked it one hour at a time. If you widdle it down- you are still further ahead.  Keep your fingers busy. I am proud of you for trying!

My sister isnt able to slay the beast.

The patches are down in price.  Nicoteen is addictive. Omonia in the cig makes it inhaled deeper. In fact there are numerous chemicals that have nothing to do with tobacco in a cig.

Any other product would be off the market.

I am rooting for you!

Thank you for the support, I'm on my own tonight. It's not so bad when my partner is here, but it's so quiet without him, it's a little harder.

I'm taking Champix (I'm not sure what it's called in the states). I take one pill in the morning and one at night. I've tried everything else and failed, but I'm going to stick with this one. It's amazing really, the cravings aren't THAT bad, but I have one or two a day that damn near kill me.

Sadly, I've traded one addiction for another . . . I'm not a mint-aholic, I'm up to two packs a day :)

Just gotta keep laughing and smiling, and knowing that it's all for the best.

Good luck to everyone else who's trying to beat it. It's hard work, but it's gotta be worth it

hi hon
big supporting hug here.
i have never smoked but i helped my mum give up after 40 odd years of it. She was so worried about gaining weight so we took lots of long walks. She swears she will never eat another carrot stick but having some there to nibble on worked at the time. She also did alot of jigsaws as she found keeping her hands busy helped too
good luck
c

Thank you completenz.

I've been knitting up a storm to keep my fingers busy. I'm not too worried about gaining weight . . . I'm fluffy anyway, I don't think anyone would notice an extra 5 pounds!

Well done helping your Momma. I was talking to mine yesterday and started to gently nag her. If I'm goin' down, someone's goin' down with me :)

I know the feeling…here is what I did and it really helped.

I figured how much I spent a month on my nasty habit.

I decided on a new toy I could buy on payments that matched

I got a neat-o laptop and spent hours playing. This helped me get thru withdrawal and provide much enjoyment. If I had fallen off the wagon I couldn’t afford the payments so I knew I would have to give it up.

The trick is to buy something you really really want.

It only took a month to get out of the habit and after 6 months I was complaining about the smoke when smokers were around me.

Good Luck  Butch

Light up a nice hog leg or a firmly packed bowl.  That'll get yer mind off cigarettes.  =)

If that doesn't work, Welbutrin should.  Ask your doctor.

Thank you for the tip.

My partner has decided to put away X amount (he didn't tell me how much) each week for me. In Feb we're heading to that states to see my parents, and he said that whatever has been put away will be added spending money for me.

Try brushing your teeth or eating something 'clean' like an apple or celery sticks when a nicotine craving hits. It helped me to change other habits too, like coffee = cigarettes so I changed to tea for a while. I would automatically light up at a stoplight so instead I trained myself to surf the radio channels at that time instead.Cleaning everything! Get that icky sticky yellow tobacco crud off the walls and your clothes.

CuriousLord -> RE: I've quit smoking . . . heeeeeelp (12/14/2007 2:02:33 PM)

You could get an MMORPG, like World of Warcraft.. then again, that would make the entire process giving up one great vice for one slightly lesser one..  (It could certainly take your mind off everything else, though.  Sort of like a virtual high.)

I saw on your profile that you're "owned".  My first suggestion would be to ask your owner for instructions; possibly something productive, such as a certain study or excerise.  Perhaps even just watching a movie or reading a book he has interest in, so you two have something else in common to talk about.

childoftheshadow -> RE: I've quit smoking . . . heeeeeelp (12/14/2007 2:08:53 PM)

I've gotten the basic "keep busy" instruction. . . that became a detailed chore list today, by noon I was calling because I'd done all my chores and there wasn't anything left to clean.

It is much easier when he's here, someone to talk to and what not . . . and he can usually think of "something" to take my mind off of it. It's just he's out tonight, and he's at work all day tomorrow and out tomorrow night, so I know I'm going to struggle then too.

I'll manage though. If nothing else, it means I can get an early night and sleep through the worst of it.

CuriousLord -> RE: I've quit smoking . . . heeeeeelp (12/14/2007 2:21:56 PM)

I've been into studying a lot lately.  (Mostly because I failed well, got a D in a summer course and it hit my ego pretty hard.)  But, I can assure you, it's both rewarding and time consuming.

Kinda neat, though.  Your relationship strikes me as similar to the one I'm in.  That poor girl.. she's always finishing things faster than I can assign them in those busy parts of the semester.  I'd suggest looking into puzzles, new skills, studies, games, and other sorts of things.

childoftheshadow -> RE: I've quit smoking . . . heeeeeelp (12/14/2007 2:24:06 PM)

I have a lot of things I do (arts, crafts, writing), but I'm at a point where I can't really settle on one thing to do . . . though I did knit a willy warmer today that took a couple of hours, that kept me busy.

CuriousLord -> RE: I've quit smoking . . . heeeeeelp (12/14/2007 2:36:36 PM)

Anything that particularly grabs your interest?  Perhaps a hobby you buried in the past for being too time consuming?
