lauren0221 -> A toast to the irony gods (12/15/2007 11:15:34 AM)

Because I am apparently a masochist, after seeing approximately nine billion zillion profiles complaining about lack of responses to messages, I sent a note to one of them. I explained how sometimes people think you are in a committed relationship because you have sent each other two messages. I explained how, some of the things proposed in initial messages are probably not even physically possible. I explained how I have a life, and other things to do than answer "How ru" messages. I spent time on the thing dammit.

And he didn't answer my message!!!

bandit25 -> RE: A toast to the irony gods (12/15/2007 11:19:55 AM)

LOL!  I accidentally viewed a dom.  You know, I double clicked and opened his profile by mistake.  He sent an email thanking me for viewing him and said if I wanted to chat...  I did look at his profile and it was the most negative profile I had ever read.  I, too, spent a LOT of time composing an answer, trying to find the right words so I didn't offend him.  I tried to offer constructive advice.
The fucker blocked me!  AFTER, he announced that he would,  Just no pleasing some people.

Level -> RE: A toast to the irony gods (12/15/2007 11:22:24 AM)

See, you should have called him "fucker" in your initial response [:D] always get that first punch in....

Haven't had that happen, but thanks to Level am now tempted to start every message with, "Dear fucker".

Interesting idea I admit. They won't know if you're being insulting, or just literal.....

Always good to keep people wondering, and probably should be, "Dear F/fucker" actually. Wouldn't want to be disrespectful.

"Does anyone know why such a nice practice as sex should have to supply the words for uncontrolled hostility? Maybe it would be better that this not be explained to Miss Manners."
- from Miss Manners' Guide To Excruciatingly Correct Behavior, by Miss Manners aka Judith Martin

Mme. Marque has pondered this very question, herself.

As for your greeting, it reminds me of another advisement from Miss Manners, in which she recommends opening even the harshest of correspondence with, "Dear [Mr./Miss/Mrs.] ____."  She enjoins you to save the good stuff for the body of the letter, as it is so much more satisfying.

Dear MadameMarque,

I love Miss Manners btw, and in case my sense of humor got lost in the shuffle, and no matter how temptng it might be, I would not actually send someone a Dear Fucker message.

My grandmother consistently buys me new copies of Miss Manners books for christmas. I dont know if she thinks Im rude, or its just habit for her now. Maybe she forgot she bought me one last year. I dont know. Its a good thing I like Miss Manners.

Oh, Lauren, I hadn't the slightest impression you were serious *-
I just thought that you and Level were so hilarious, talking about it.  I especially like that you formalized it - "Dear F-" - If only Miss Manners knew - she could live vicariously, through you.

* although, someday, maybe someone will send you that note so ludicrously offensive, that you are compelled to be ludicrous, right back :P

MadameMarque -> RE: A toast to the irony gods (12/17/2007 4:36:43 AM)

...but stand firm!
“The ancient Greek code of hospitality is the one to which Miss Manners still subscribes.  You may never murder a guest while he is in your home.  It is much more polite to get him off the premises, first, by sending him on an impossible mission, from which you are quite certain he cannot return, alive.”

Ghita, haha ~ we can hope the first copy is because she credits you with a wry and sophisticated wit, such that you'd appreciate Miss Manners'. And as for subsequent copies, perhaps she forgot, yes.

(Perish the thought, but it may amuse you to imagine that she is re-gifting them, as those around her keep hopefully presenting her with copies.  But I would never be the one to suggest such a thing.)
