So how do you deal with the holidays?

So as not to hijack camille's thread any farther, I thought Id start a new one. Since it seems to me that everyone uses some sort of a vice to get through the holidays sanely...whats yours?

LOL, love the poll.  Anything alcoholic will help you get through the holidays.  Drink up!

Other than Andy Williams, Christmas is a wonderful time of the year!

Meditation, avoidance, sleep, and Jägermeister (preferred, but schnapps will work nicely as well).

I get through the holidays by living in the stores.

Great poll...seems that my procrastination kicks into high gear during December.  I've had presents purchased for over a month now - still unwrapped and staring at me with this horrible look of contempt.  The only way out is alchohol.

Jägermeister works best for me in the eggnog. Then again, I like things that may not sound appealing to most, like near-licorice tasting eggnog.

My main vice is spending money.  When I go into a mall or store to buy presents for someone else, I just have to buy an item or two (or several) for myself as well.

The next vice is overeating.  I was making great progress with the diet and exercise program until my birthday and Thanksgiving (which were on the same day), and it has been downhill ever since.  So glad the New Year is right around the corner.

Well, time to go.  Off to the store for more shopping!

In the food vice category, I'm always up for a slice or three of Wild Turkey cake.

i may be a little crazy (*NOTE* that was a self observation...Not an invitation for feedback.....heh) anyway, i don't think i do any of these things...Although, i am somewhat obsessed with buying HIM things.... i think it may be because this is our first Christmas together and because He dislikes Christmas soo much....So, i currently have difficulty walking into any store and not getting him something...Even if it's just for his stalking...heh..

Procrastination and avoidance...nohalo mentioned procrastination, and I realize, as I consider it, that procrastination and avoidance are my mistakes, every year, for some time, now.

Does anybody have any hot advice for living with uncomfortable feelings and fears and stress, without leaning on avoidance and procrastination?

(The question's not in the spirit of embracing your vices - sorry :P - but it is relevant to needing the vices to lean on.)

I thank my Higher Power and am the first to admit when I am to blame. I consider that question in the poll insulting to those who do have a higher power belief. I wonder what would prompt someone to post what I see as at the very least rude and at the very worst bigoted, in an otherwise fun reading poll.

Marquee I know exactly what you speak of and it seems that recently I have learned to cope with mine. If I can be of any help just CMail me.

i shout profanities at the bell-ringers in front of discount stores. Sure, i'll go to hell for it, but it feels GOOD.
