I enjoy playing with people that give me feedback. I have played with a brat or a SAM pushing to get more sensation or just being kinda mouthy in an amusing way. When my brat pushed too far, she always was reminded of her place swiftly and firmly and we both enjoyed it. I think the key is knowing who you are playing with. If I mouthed off to my Master, he'd be livid, but that isn't the way we play. I wouldn't assume it was an insult or a compliment until knowing the person who spoke.
