Hey everyone,

The thread I started regarding "Parent's Stash" got Hubby and I thinking about the fact that it is time to secure the Wickety-wack since we are parents to small UMs. I thought I'd share our DIY project with you all.

What we already had:

We have a California Closet System that was already in place. We took a 26"x 72" section of the closet section that consisted of melanine vertical boards with pre-drilled holes for shelving and clothing bars.

What we Purchased:

A large 3/4 inch thick particle board
6 hinges
Combination lock Hasp
Shelf support pegs
6 plant holder brackets
8 plastic storage bins

Tools used:
Rotary saw
Power Drill
Tape measure
Phillips screwdriver
level

Time needed:
Approx. 2-3 hours depending on your handiness

What we made:
We cut doors to fit the length/width of the section, and turned it into what is basically a double wide locker. We screwed the plant hanging brackets into the wall up towards the top, and each bracket has two hooks so that's 12 hooks- six each at different depths, so the floggers are hanging further out, and the crops and paddles are hung almost flush against the wall. we then created three shelves out of the leftover particle board and we store the plastic bins and our books on them. I am a neat freak, so I whipped out my Dymo Labeler and had lots of fun labeling the bins.

Anyhow, now we have a wonderfully organized wickety-wack closet that leaves everything readily available and that keeps everything hidden from prying eyes. we have found that we are using a greater variety of toys now that we don't have to drag out boxes and rummage around, making lots of suspicious clinking and clanging noises.

We were so proud of our DIY project that we wanted to invite the neighbors over and show them, saying, "Hey, look at what you can't see!"

Just thought I'd share our little project- we priced out locking trunks and tool boxes, etc., and this was the most cost-effective and convenient way to go.

Thanks for reading, and if any of you decide to make this, I'd be happy to answer any further questions you may have.

Sounds good.  I would love to see pics.  Can you post some?

No way! Then you'd get to see my wickety-wack! J/K...there's really nothing to see...just a pair of double doors- think a double-wide school locker with a combination locking hasp. The inside can be configured to fit whatever wack you wickey.
