quote:

i can only say when it comes to revenge, even though it may feel good at the time you are doing it, it is negative energy and can eat you up inside. coming out of a very bad marriage, i must admit that, at times, it has crossed my mind, but i just don't have it in me. i rather just move on and think positive, which isn't always easy at times. i also don't have many female friends at all...im more the rebel who goes her own way in life.

About 3 years ago, i wrote my ex, and forgave him. Was quite an experience; i cannot say i never have twimges of the bad feelings but they aren't an every day occurence.

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake
from Rabindranath Tagore's Geetanjali

Let your life lightly dance on the edges of Time like dew on the tip of a leaf.
Rabindranath Tagore

A wise man will make more oppotunites than he finds
Sir Francis Bacon

The spiritual meaning of love is measured by what it can do. Love is meant to heal. Love is meant to renew. Love is meant to bring us closer to God.
Deepak Chopra

Anything that is of value in life only multiplies when it is given.

The love of liberty is the love of others; the love of power is the love of ourselves.
William Hazlitt

Freedom is not worth having if it does not connote freedom to err. It passes my comprehension how human beings, be they ever so experienced and able, can delight in depriving other human beings of that precious right.
Ghandi

I have many, but I will just list a few.
----------------------------------------

Its name is Public Opinion.
It is held in reverence.
It settles everything.

Some think it is the voice of God.

Loyalty to petrified opinion never yet broke a chain
or freed a human soul..........Mark Twain

------------------------------------------

The mind is its own place,
and in itself can make heaven of Hell,
a hell of Heaven.........Milton

-------------------------------------------

We are prhaps, uniquely among the earths's creatures
the worrying animal.

We worry away our lives, fearing the future, discontent with the present, unable to take in the idea of dying, unable to sit still.......Lewis Thomas

-------------------------------------------

To hate and to fear is to be psychologically ill
It is, in fact, the consuming illness of our time.......H.A. Overstreet

-------------------------------------------

So long as we love we serve;
so long as we are loved by others,
I would almost say that we are indispensable;
and no man is useless while he has a friend.........Rober Louis Stevenson

It is the chiefest point of happiness
that a man is willint to be what he is........Erasmus

An appropriate quote that serves to reply to the original thread as well as to respond to the topic of revenge:

"Two wrongs do not make a right"

In regards to revenge, it just reminds me of a conversation I had recently with my daughter. She was upset because of something another child did to her. They would go back and forth, continuing to escalate the situation until eventually a major fight broke out and someone got hurt enough to go get an adult.

So I sat down with her and explained that she cannot control how other people behave. She is responsible for her own actions and that she has a responsibility to do the right thing. If others choose to behave badly...well...there's really nothing she can do about that other than getting an adult involved.

Perhaps that's what some people need to do when thoughts of revenge pop into their heads:

Go find an adult to help resolve the situation.

~Thorns

Moves on: nor all your Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all your Tears wash out a Word of it.

There are so many great quotes out there, but here's a few I can think of off the top of my head:

Some people are like Slinkies ... Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

No plan survives contact with the enemy - Napoleon

The thought manifests as the word
The word manifests as the deed
The deed develops into habit
And habit hardens into character
So watch the thought and its ways with care
And let it spring from love
Born out of concern for all beings
As the shadow follows the body
As we think, so we become
~Buddha

And so the time came when the risk to remain in a tight bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom
~Anais Nin

Your Feet (Pablo Neruda)

When I cannot look at your face
I look at your feet.
Your feet of arched bone,
your hard little feet.
I know that they support you,
and that your sweet weight
rises upon them.
Your waist and your breasts,
the doubled purple
of your nipples,
the sockets of your eyes
that have just flown away,
your wide fruit mouth,
your red tresses,
my little tower.
But I love your feet
only because they walked
upon the earth and upon
the wind and upon the waters,
until they found me.
