AOL software has been among the worst for a long time. It hogs memory, in fact takes over some of the memory management done normally by the OS. Every AOL software user is a beta tester. Notice every version of their software is a point 0. I had that problem, AOL would work for chat, IM, email, but the internal browser couldn't get anything on the web. When I tried to reload the software it crashed the OS HARD, I had to reload video and audio drivers afterward. After I was forced to upgrade to XP I reloaded AOL 7.0, YES 7.0, and it is fine now. I still don't use their browser, but it works. The ony quirk is that every time I start AOL it says "Updating AOL database", while it only used to do that if it was not shut down properly, like if you lost power while the software was running. Now it does it all the time but also, it only takes a few seconds. I can live with that. I really only use AOL for mail and FTP these days. Forget about their crappy little browser. The only time it gets used is if I get a link in an email, and even then, if I like what I see I will save the mail as new. Then I go to aol.com using the real browser and open it from there, or bookmark it. Age old problem with AOL. Best thing to do is not make them your ISP, and set it to connect through the real ISP. From what I hear now it can be free for email, but I pay the ten bucks and I use the FTP as well. And I use it. Even when the internal browser was screwed up, FTP worked. And right now I got so much in there I guess I'll keep paying the ten bucks. But I have no other use for their software. T
