Well, I guess this is it;  The end of freedom in the USA.  It was a good run.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20071223/ts_afp/usrightshistory;_ylt=AoftYhPrTe_IskJy7e4m8XR34T0D

The Federal Bureau of Investigation chief wrote that his agency would use a "master warrant" to "apprehend all individuals potentially dangerous" to national security based on an index of names compiled for years.

I wish people would leave uncle Edgar alone…as I understand it he and I had a lot in common….at least in  women’s clothes.

Not gonna happen, KD.  Not only is this a good opportunity to take a poke at the memory of J. Edna (I'm a grudge-holding sonofabitch), it also points out that this kind of thinking has been getting slapped down by our system long before Alex Jones and co. had a website, or President Bush and the "neo-cons" came along.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I do think we need people like Hoover...There needs to be a balance in everything. It does no good for us or the world if we go too far with freedom for everything anytime... that includes always guaranteeing the absolute rights of citizens.

It is a nice idea but not wise or practical. If we want to survive there needs to be a balance with some compromises between absolute rights, freedoms and common since investigation procedures.

All of us in America, and I’m sure most democracies, get frustrated with the bickering between political parties. But this very bickering is the balance that offsets the constitutional abuses of the Bush’s of this world and kept Hoover in line.

It is a little slow in coming this time because of 9/11 but the CIA, Bush, and his cronies will be reined in.

Good point KD.  I feel similarly about the ACLU.  They are suposed to take absolutist/ exteme stands, and that serves a usefull function, but it is good that they lose sometimes.

Sorry to make you wait so long, TAKE THIS THREAD TO CUBA, see my boxcutter ?

First and foremost, what people do not reaslize is that this country is not a democracy. It never was. It was formed as a republic and since there has been no drastic change in the apparent structure of the government, remains so today.

The Founding Fathers knew that democracies degenerate. They knew that the bickering would bring them down. So they adopted the republican form of government. Now when a republic works right, you elect leaders who will make the decisions. If you elect these leaders based on their integrity and understanding of the Constitutuion rather than who wears a nicer tie, you generally get pretty good results.

In a true republic, leaders think of themselves as servants of the People. And they actually serve, they do not impose their will or agenda on the People, they simply do what is best for the People. This requires loyalty, something which is very rare today. I believe one Man has such loyalty, and though a bit misguided, is closer to the ideal than any other runner for President. Of course that is Ron Paul.

You see I do disagree with Ron Paul to a great degree, but I also believe the others are so rotten to the core that they will never get my vote. Ron Paul is not the greatest public speaker, and I hope he never gets his way when it comes to abortion, and I don't even care about his position on euthenasia, what people have to understand is that Ron Paul understands responsibility.

He knows, along with very few others that when you are elected to represent the People this is not empowerment, this is entrustment. Consider this as my Inaugural Address : (sp)

"My colleagues, those who helped me get here, it is time for you to celebrate. Your efforts have come to fruition, I am here. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve.

But this is not a day for me to celebrate, for I am now charged with a massive responsibility. While I have confidence in my ability to perform my duty, the fact of the matter is that I now have the duty to do so. Officially.

I will not shirk that duty. But understand that I doubt many understand just what that duty entails. Others make noises about abolishing the IRS, all that, but I never said that. We The Government must stop taking so much from We The People and wasting it.

We have become a nation of one half of the People watching the other, a nation where you don't really own anything because everything is subject to confiscation. This is the type of thing my Greatgrandmother told me about the old country, a big part of the reason they left.

If we don't stop the current trend, happening right now in our midst, the jailing of innocents, the confiscation left and right, the manipulation of our courts to satify the wishes of certain chosen people, one day the US may have to put up a wall to keep the people in.

What has hapened to your standard of living in the past decade ? Yes you make more, but what does everything cost ? This is market manipulation by big money, and I'll have no part of it, in fact I will be doing things to stop this.

But People, there are some hard decisions to make, and a day may come that some of you hate me. We can no longer prop up the dollar with credit. I am not saying dump the whole idea, we cannot do that. But what I am saying is that we are going to stop spending. I am going to change the way the US government does business. There will be alot less pork.

We are going to change the educational system for starters, and in a number of years our empty, lifeless factories will be filled with young energetic people with the aptitude to upgrade the old machines, or build new ones. We need to again become the innovators of the world. Let the other supposed innovators of the world copy us, because by the time they tool up for it, we will already be working on something else.

We will find ways to become self sufficient again, we will find ways to get that precious oil from our own sources, and we will find ways to use alot less of it. We will become great again. We will show the world that we still have something left to give.

From the very beginning I told you that to get this country back on track will require personal sacrifice on everybody's part. Well maybe not Bill Gates, but it might mean one less ivory back scratcher to one, and to another it might mean hamburger helper instead of a night out at the Longhorn or whatever.

But we must do this, we are in deep trouble, and the only way for us to lead again is to make sacrifices, and to be proactive in improving our own standard of living.

And we must do more to nurture the young. The most precious, important and vulnerable elements of our society are treated such that I wonder if we can even call this a society. The destruction of the family has had a very nasty impact, and a way must be found to fix that. In no way do I propose that the government dictate family values, but legislation does result in some social engineering, that is a fact. The thing to do here is to legislate to encourage better values.

And what is happening with technology is a subject for a whole nother speech, but it is a very important issue. We will be dealing with that as well.

And as for the Mexican border, we will be dealing with that fairly quickly. The sole intended purpose of our military is to protect our borders, our soil. They will do that. I will offer amnesty to any illegal who qualifies, he works, he knows English, and he has more than two words to say when you ask him how he intends to be an asset to this country. And there are no checks. Government handouts are for people who have paid taxes or at least their Parents did, not for just anyone who shows up.

We can take this country back, you and I. We need each other. You need me to lead and make some complex judgements, that I can do. You need to think about things before you plunk down a hundred bucks for tennis shoes, or even forty for a tshirt. You have to think before you buy.

I will be on the other end, and I want to improve the situation when it comes to consumer goods. You can buy things for thousands of dollars and have it break one day outside the warranty period and no amount of money can fix it. Now that everything is imported they have us over a barrell.

So it is important that we innovate, so that even if we keep buying junk, we are making enough of our own "junk" to afford it. The only way to get ahead is to innovate. It used to work for us, we used to be prosperous, what happened ?

School shootings, drug wars, gangs, violence, children having children. What is next ?

People, my  People, we either go in one direction or the the other, and hopefully you see that one is up and one is down. Come up with me."

Wonder what I would do with $5.4m.

Fact of the matter is this, the country is gone and there is only one chance to even start taking it back. I don't think I even have to say it.

You're gonna try and hijack a J. Edna Hoover thread, to talk about Ron Paul?  That's as effective as putting up a sign along the freeway for him, with "revolution" mis-spelled.

My growing observation about Ron Paul supporters is that they do not understand the concept of "inappropriate behavior."

You must be meeting a better class of them than I am, Firm.  The last bunch I had to walk past didn't seem to grasp the concept of "personal hygiene."

Do you think J. Edna used "Secret?"
