farglebargle -> Basra - "Too Dangerous For Western Journalists" (12/24/2007 7:09:42 AM)

http://www.veoh.com/videos/v1665398DPhCrf98

Oppression of women, Fundamentalist Nutjobs, and Shiia Militias...

"Just a tribal matter"

Doctors being kidnapped by people using government vehicles...

The militias were only able to gain control after the collapse of Hussein's government....

Sunnis, Christians and those who oppose corruption fear for their lives....

Lordandmaster -> RE: Basra - "Too Dangerous For Western Journalists" (12/24/2007 7:13:40 AM)

Yeah, and the truth about Basra is too dangerous for Western voters.

farglebargle -> RE: Basra - "Too Dangerous For Western Journalists" (12/24/2007 7:16:58 AM)

The video is pretty clear.... "First you get a letter, then they shoot at your front door, then if you don't leave -- the death squads come"...

This is no surprise. Our Army - The Best Peacekeeping Force In The World (TM) couldnt control the place and it became too dangerous for them to stay in Basra too.

The problem, rather paradoxically since we broke every rule going to be there and then every rule we could find to break whilst we were there, is that we're too lawful to control the place. Sadly, it does need a bunch of vicious, sadistic psychotics to dominate and rule - and to keep the neighbours under control. Something many of us appreciated beforehand but required a new lesson to learn apparently.

Our regime change is a success though, in that we have exchanged one bunch of vicious, sadistic psychotics for another.

The only "regime change" we've brought about is that the Blair Administration is gone for good, Australia's soon followed suit, and it won't be too long before Bush II is finally history as well.

The BBC at its best. Dont listen to me watch this video.
Shia brain dead fundamentalists crawl out of the woodwork, start killing and mutilating.
Who's to blame....why Tony Blair of course.

If the Brits had instituted draconian "justice" against the ever more confident militant factions in Basra you can bet that this pathetic speciwoman of  subsidised privilige would have filed copy saying how awful our occupation had become.

The liberal arm of the BBC is both useless and quite dangerous

There is a fairly good series of articles about the British troops in the Basra area running currently on Michael Yon's website.  This link will take you to one about the reception some of these men received on their return, but the other recent posts (posted under "Dispatches") have quite a bit more to say.

Right... It's the media's fault that Bush stuck the US's dick into a 4000 year old meat grinder....

They did it to protect Israel IMO

farglebargle -> RE: Basra - "Too Dangerous For Western Journalists" (12/24/2007 3:58:36 PM)

Protect Israel from what? Aside from MAYBE Saudi Arabia, they're the only ones with Nukes, so no-one in their right mind would fuck with them.

Sanity -> RE: Basra - "Too Dangerous For Western Journalists" (12/24/2007 4:07:42 PM)

So, who're you claiming is in their right mind.

The potential that Hussein was thought to have or be able to develop if given the opportunity.

Remember that "gun" that would fire shells "ginormous" distances.?
Part of that was built not far from where I live.
Matrix Machine Tools if you want to know.

The key phrase you used is "right mind."  You're right, no one in their right mind would use NBC weapons against Israel.  You have to admit, there have been some fucking nutcases heading governments in the Arab world.  If you think that you are going to get a straight ticket to paradise for martyrdom, then you may very well decide it's a good idea to use those weapons on them.  Crazy people often think they can roll the dice and come up a winner as well.

That being said, I don't think Saddam was one of those people.  Saddam was a cold, calculating man.  He wasn't the brightest apple on the tree when it came to understanding global politics, but I don't think he was crazy enough to use NBC weapons against Israel.  I think he wanted them, and he wanted them so he could use them as bargaining chips.  He was a gangster, and that is the way he thought.  Bush and his team made a huge error in judgement by invading Iraq.  But unlike a lot of my fellow Bush detractors, I don't think there was some conspiratorial, nefarious scheme behind it.  I really think Bush and his advisors are idealists.  They thought they could easily achieve a positive outcome.  I think they were dead wrong, but I understand their reasoning.

Indeed - the Matrix affair was just another disgusting government episode. Having granted export licences for these guys to supply tubes (a barrel for the gun), and despite being well informed about the possible uses (a barrel for a gun), and well informed that Hussein was a nutter - when it all came out, the guys from the manufacturer went to prison and the government tried to portray itself as the upholder of right. Fucking wanking Tories at their best.

The motive for Iraq? To bypass those OPEC nations who are behind the attacks on the west and gain direct supply of oil which is unaffected by such considerations as well as to enable us to do as we will in the region, relieved of the pressures we might otherwise face were we to act whilst reliant on certain nations' supply. It was part of the "war on terror", but not in an obvious way - the effect is intended to be to reduce Saudi power and thus influence; except of course it hasnt quite worked out that way.

From memory it was even worse than that.
One government department was prosecuting the Matrix managerial types for sanction busting while another was using them to try to get info. about Iraq. That was when Allan Clarke, that toe rag of Tory privilege, uttered the famous phrase
<economical with the "actualite">
in other words we've been lying and whats worse we've caught ourselves at it lol

On the other hand he referred to Africa as Bongo Bongo land and I am pretty sure he used to comment that someone was taking a stand on the Uganda position ie having a quick "bunk up"
In other words he was reckless and flamboyent.
