A thread got me to wondering. We have talked about how one moment can change your life as in the movie "It's a Wonderful Life". What I want to know is who was a pivitol person in your life that made you be the best you could be and want to strive? Or what event made you want to strive. A motivator of sorts?

my oldest boy.  he fought so hard to live when he was born prematurely, it was  something that made me a better person, wanting to be the best mom i could be for him.  and my own mother, who sacrificed so much for me while i was growing up.

My band director, definitely. To quote fight club, "A guy who came to Fight Club for the first time, his ass was a wad of cookie dough. After a few weeks, he was carved out of wood."

The first day of camp, I managed to throw up after about 4 hours. By the time Ramadan rolled around, I was going through the whole day and the practices with no problems.

There was this teacher at my High School... he was my industrial arts instructor. He was a fan of Frank Zappa, and generally a cool "bear" of a guy. He not only taught the class, he inspired a lot of us who came from difficult home lives. He made us see that High School was just the acid test, and that better days were ahead. Once we got out of school, and got the hell out of our little podunk town in the middle of bean and corn feilds.

Because of him (in many ways) I "got a life."

Mine was also a high school teacher that recognized my pain and discomfort in my overall life at the time and went out of his way to encourage me to excel despite it.
