Status: offline 		i'm always curious to see what other people do for holiday dinners...it varies for us but always involves dressing and usually turkey. i haven't had the opportunity to do some real southern cooking in months so this was fun for me.

my sister and i cooked like madwomen yesterday. we had chicken, turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes with garlic and sour cream in, mac and cheese with cream of mushroom soup, green bean casserole, cornbread dressing with onions and peppers, pasta salad, rolls, sweet potato pie, chocolate chip cookies, and sugar cookies. i seriously don't think i'm going to eat again for a month.

what'd you have for christmas, yule, etc. dinner?

We ended up at Chili's for Christmas eve and had some tasty stuff, including a very good margarita.

The normal mass consumption of good food was cancelled due to illness amongst the relatives.  Nothing to munch but Christmas cookies!

Status: offline 		my mom was nice enough to cook the dinner this year, she didn't want me risking falling head first into the oven while trying to remove the turkey, lol.  she outdid herself, the turkey was delicious, stuffing was great, everything was very good and there was more than enough for everyone, we could have had another 6 people over and nobody would have gone home hungry.  guess where i'm headed for leftovers!

Status: offline 		Xmas Eve, had crab legs, and shrimp scampi, lots of O'derves,(sp?) pate,many cheeses,veggies. decadent walnut cheesecake,(my mom's family tradition.) on Xmas day, had a dry honey baked ham. (blah!) a really good casserole (with beef, curly noodles, and tomatoes.) salad, baked mac and cheese,peppermint cake and icecream.  Would of enjoyed it more if my stomach hadn't been cramping.

thornhappy - lol, you can come to my house! tons of leftovers.

pm - made my sister do the turkey, myself...i can do meat dishes in small, manageable amounts, and i can cook the hell out of some starches and vegetables, but i scare myself when i try to cook entire animals all at one time, hehehe.

Status: offline 		Standing rib roast, yorkshire pudding, cauliflower/broccoli cheese casserole (The Man asked for it, he and my son ate it). Baked stuffed potatoes with bacon. Chocolate cake. Champagne.

I had two and a half glasses and was quite tipsy.

Status: offline 		It varies depending on the mood I am in but this Christmas was very simple and easy.

I cooked a 8 pound prime rib, nice and rare in the centre. A mashed potato baked thing I made up based on the twice baked potato theory. aka lots of butter and sour cream. Fresh green beans and baby carrots steamed then drenched in more butter. Home made croissants because my kids would disown me if I did anything else. And I baked a cheesecake and made a raspberry sauce to pour over it.

Then I made to give as gifts.....two kinds of fudge, pralines, chocolate crinkle cookies and shortbread cookies...

I kinda slacked this year to be honest.

Status: offline 		Nothing special for xmess,  since I was alone.  But I had the neighbors over for Boxing Day dinner yesterday.

Sweet Pepperpot Porkroast with carrots and rutabaga
garlic cauliflower
green beans with slivered almonds

maple cranberry compote served over french vanilla ice cream

Status: offline 		Turkey breast (there's only two of us, no need for a whole bird), garlic mashed potatoes, gravy, sausage stuffing, spaghetti squash, steamed asparagus, homemade cranberry sauce, and pinot noir. Storebought pumpkin pie for desert - I could have made one, but I was lazy, dammit!

I went a little nuts for Christmas and made:

Drinks
Fresh mint and ginger lemonade
Belgian beer
Bernier Chardonnay

Appetizers
Miniature beef Wellingtons
Fontina Fondue with sausage, toasted bread, and roasted mushrooms,
Smoked salmon on potato and apple pancakes with crème fraiche

Meal
Lavender Duck with honey
Ham with pineapples and cherries
Guyere, gouda, and parmesan scalloped Potatoes
Roasted butternut squash
Wild rice stuffing with wild mushrooms
Potato Rolls
Cherry chutney
Green beans

Dessert
Challah bread pudding with a spiced rum sauce
Oatmeal raisin cookies

Status: offline 		Turkey breast that tasted as tho' this particular bird was  basically the Dom. of the Turkey farm.
Tough rubbery  and just not nice to know.
I have just finished a Turkey sandwich which  wasn't too bad.

Look at that "stuff" in Wildfleurs post. My Turkey would have made a right mess of that. He was bad he was. I just know it.

Status: offline 		I'm mildly vegetarian (I still eat fish and shrimp and sometimes crab) and my owner wanted us to have something that didn't require cooking two completely different meals. So, we had breakfast: eggs, waffles, hash browns, sausage (veggie sausage for me), etc. It was quite unusual, but nice. And easier to cook then a big chunk of meat :D
