I don`t have links,but it`s been on for five days now,with a claimed 200 Kurds dead.

Has anyone been reading about this? Or posted?

No, I've been too busy on my moral high ground, sniping at the Saviour of Afghanistan's legacy.

Yeah, they're bombing them, and have sent ground troops in once, I think. Some of our guys said we weren't consulted ahead of time, but I saw that we gave the Turks logistical assistance, so we had to have known.

So, why isn't the US standing up to the Turkish Invaders of Iraq?

slaveboyforyou -> RE: Turkey invades Iraq (12/27/2007 7:39:03 AM)

It's been going on longer than a few days.  The Turks have been figting the PPK for several decades.  They haven't invaded Iraq.  They have been conducting raids across the border.  The PPK had been considered a terrorist organization by the U.S. for quite some time now.  We have always shared intelligence with the Turks about them.

EvilGenie -> RE: Turkey invades Iraq (12/27/2007 10:14:30 AM)

Here I was thinking invasion invasion. If someone had mentioned the PPK before now, I wouldn't have needed the link. Though thank you Level for providing it as quickly as you did. [:)]

Nah the Turks are fighting a radical communist faction, they are not representatives of the Kurdish people.

I wouldnt be so sure. They are fighting for a free Kurdistan and many Kurds wish this, communist or not.

The main political problem for the US and the UK, is that the Turkish are allies and want us to prevent cross border attacks. The Iraqi president is also Kurdish and along with the Iraqi Kurds is sympathetic to the PKK. Basically a tightrope to walk and the question to ask is which ally do you upser the most Turkey or Iraq

Moloch -> RE: Turkey invades Iraq (12/27/2007 12:03:30 PM)

PKK are terrorists, Free kurdistan means going to war with Turkey which is a war they will not get support for or win.
If  Turkey would give back the land that is rightfully Kurdish the PKK would stop blowing shit up.
Kurdish people arent stupid they may be empathetic with PKK, but they dont want a war with turkey.
Last thing Kurds need is being stuck beteen  hostile Iraquis and Turks.

Once they cross that border from Turkey into Iraq, they're shitting on the US and their Occupation and Protection of Iraq.

It is an ACT OF WAR.

Uhh no, its a "police action" sanctioned by US. Trust me Kurd's can stand up for themselves.

farglebargle -> RE: Turkey invades Iraq (12/27/2007 12:35:25 PM)

How can the US Sanction an Act of War ( violating Iraq's Sovereign Borders) against Iraq?

Moloch -> RE: Turkey invades Iraq (12/27/2007 12:57:11 PM)

Once again Im tired of repeating this, it is not an acto of war it is a police action, PKK is a rebel group which launches attack across Turkish border (its really Kurdistan but turks killed a bunch of Kurds took it and called their own).
The Kurds will not police or attack the popular PKK.
If my neighbor was throwing rocks at me across the yard me smacking him upside the head would be corrective action on my part and not an act of war.
The turks are attacking PKK not Iraq!

Unless covered by the Doctrine of Hot Pursuit, the Turkish Police HAVE NO AUTHORITY OUTSIDE OF TURKEY'S BORDERS.

This doesn't seem to be the case here. It seems that the Turkish Army is crossing the Iraqi Borders.

Of course, given there *is* no functional NATIONAL Iraqi Government, I can understand to some degree why this hasn't been answered by a Declaration of War in the Iraqi Parliament.

Moloch -> RE: Turkey invades Iraq (12/27/2007 1:21:46 PM)

Go look up the meaning of "police action" , has nothing to do with the law enforcment branch.
The PKK are the agressors here they shell ambush and attack Turkish forces in Turkey.
As you sais there is no Functional Iraqi infrastructure to police the PKK. So Turkey is "politley" removing PKK forces from the border region, instead of  going to war you know taking territory bombing cities... etc...
Quite honestly right now Turkey is acting very polite and restrained right now.
Kurds and Turks have been at it since Turks killed buttload of Kurds and took their land, so Im quite biased and sympathetic to the Kurdish cause.

farglebargle -> RE: Turkey invades Iraq (12/27/2007 3:45:25 PM)

Wikipedia.

"Police action in military/security studies and international relations, is a euphemism for a military action undertaken without a formal declaration of war."

In other words, it is an Act of War, An insult to the National Sovereignty of Iraq and her Citizens, Casus Belli.
