I've read about these, but have yet to find out if they really exist and/or can be purchased. Does anyone have any info on such a device?

I've found a type that is used for costumes that makes it look as though the wearer is blind, but do not limit vision. What we are looking for is a set of contacts that actually renders the wearer unable to see. Most such devices are transparent or clear in the center, but to block vision, they'd have to be fully opaque.

I'd LOVE some of those.  I do a google search for them every other year or so and just turn up a bunch of stuff with clear spots in the middle.

This site  http://opt.pacificu.edu/test/pulldown2/contact.html  mentions the use of opaque lenses for vision therapy, but it looks like you have to go to them to be fitted/approved/etc.  No fun there.

Anyone can use a blindfold.

They exist and can be purchased.  9mmsfx and FXEyes are just two manufacturers of such lenses.  Google will find you even more.

Here's a direct link to the blind eye from 9mmsfx, for anyone who's feeling lazy: Blind Eye

This is a really interesting idea.  I wonder, are there any negative effects, in comparison to a blindfold or any typical form of sight deprivation?  I'm thinking of problems beyond any irritation someone might experience if they are new to contacts in general.

I imagine they use similar contacts in the film industry, so it's probably a safe option, but I'm still curious.

Edit: Gah!  MsSaskia beat me to the link.  To make up for it, I'll link my favorites (Which still block out all vision) while being really, really creepy.  Dead eyes!

There are some creeeeeepy lenses on that site.  Creepy AND pricy.  One mirrored lens for $400. Ouch.

A couple years back you could order cheap, mass-produced cosmetic lenses from the big on-line retailers just to screw around with, and i think they had a blackout one. Then the AMA stepped in and got a law passed requiring a current (<1yr) prescription for ALL contact lens purchases, and the recreational market vanished overnight. Now you gotta pay if you wanna play.

Funny how a lens that blocks all vision can be ordered in different powers

The dead eyes were creeeeepy!  Something about them repelled and attracted, which usually means 'attracted' for me.  ; )

I could answer that question.  However, I would prefer not to.

Well thanks, MsSaskia. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who thinks this would be a cool idea. The Blind Eye and Cataract seem the best suited to our needs.

So, the idea is to wear a hood with eye and noseholes, plus the contacts. Add a set of bondage mitts to ensure the inability to remove the contacts, and you have a pretty effective form of restriction. Now to decide on whether these are more useful and fun than the sleepsack I've been eyeing. God, too bad Christmas is already over :)

I've sent emails out to these contact lens companies regarding prescription requirements and if the lenses make things "murky" or actually block vision. Both companies were adamant that a prescription is required and both verified that the lenses blocked out all vision.

One thing to consider, since these lenses offer no vision correction, almost any old prescription will do :) After all, don't we all get our regular eye check ups? ;-)

For a slightly cheaper solution, there're also a few places out there that will take pre-existing Rx lenses, and paint them for you. Usually they do the usual Vampire, cat, or other "costume"-type patterns, but I'm sure they would have no problem simply opaquing them for you....

Hard lenses only, please.

what about a pair of normal sunglasses or specs. and either scratch the lenses so they can't be seen through, or, if you use sunglasses, cover the insides with paper, card, or some thin (dark) fabric.

Oooh.  I wasn't even aware of a movie version.  Time to go rifle through the Netflix database.

just reading this thread is a turn on. so perfect for public domination. out in public, you are totally vulnerable to whatever your Dom wants but nothing as obvious as a blind fold.!

There are heaps of places cheaper than 9mm, most opaque contacts shouldn't cost you any more than $40 each! And they are the most blinding, the black ones you can still see a bit! For under $300 you can buy a pair of opaque sclera ( that's full eye ) contacts wich are hot!
My favorite idea for this type of blindfold (and man do I love blindfolds!) is using occular prosthetics!!!! They are full eye sclera contact style eyes that look exactly like real eyes, but you can't see a thing thru them!
They are used by people with a deformed blind eye!
You can put them in your playgirls eyes, blinding her completely,,, add a remote controll strap on vibrating friend , and go out, maybe for coffee,
Get her to hold a mock or cheap blind cane if you want to pass for blind in highly crowded places,
If just a private walk, tape her hands an put them in her jacket, plug her ears and have a fun time!

Yes and No.

They can be purchased but the good ones are expensive about $400 a set depending on model and if you have them made for custom eye sight.

All market available "white out" or Blind eye contacts which give the wearer that look of extreme cataract blindness, actually make the wearer blind. Any model of this you find that says it allows you to see is ether bogus or it has a pupil hole. Meaning it is had a large and noticeable hole in it that allows the iris to see.

"Black out" Lenses are more commonly what is used in BDSM scenes like those made my Kink.com. Instead of covering the whole eye cover only the pupil and iris with a black circle and look less creepy.

Now the problems with these contacts is two fold; Eye infection and slippage.

I am a contact wearer and as all contact wearers can tell you this is pain for regular contacts not just recreational ones.

Clean, rinse and sterilize them after each use and do not leave them in longer than 6 hours as "costume" contacts are not perforated like corrective lenses for all day use.

Now contacts tend to slip and slide in your eye if you rub them or blink too much, especially if you are like me and have astigmatism. This will give a few moments of sight depending on how and were the contact slipped.

*Note: I give all this info from first hand experience.
