I am guessing that most of the Americans on this forum are Democrats or Libertarians, but I'm curious to hear if you're satisfied with your candidate(s) or if you vote for them because you feel there's no one better and do so grudgingly?

I think both major parties have inspired talented candidates.

The parties' nod is, of course, what we're in the process of deciding, so too soon to call.

I have favorites in both camps, but like many, I'm still listening.

I'm a reactionary.  As long as Hillary Clinton isn't elected whatever...all the candidates are crap anymore...

We have our fair share of those from the right here too... as I'm sure you'll soon learn, if you stick around for any length of time.

Ha!  The right...if you mean Republicans, they've swung to the left...too far left to be called 'Conservative' in my book.

This is the first time in my (voting)  lifetime that a candidate is running in either the democratic OR republican parties that I can be enthusiastic about supporting.

Well, I gotta admit... I haven't always voted independent/3rd party... but I have for the past 20 years. Ron Paul will be my first exception in two decades.

i don't identify with any specific political party, but i probably fall mostly in line with socialism. that said, i hate voting. hate hate hate. because there is never a candidate who has a good personality and whose views i can totally support...and then, on top of that, the ones whose views are closest to mine will never get elected, because minor party candidates don't really have a snowball's chance in this country. i've been really, really disenchanted with politics for the last few years.

I'm not sure but I feel like I should be offended by this.

Anyway, now that I'm not busy let me make a better answer than I had previously.  There are very few candidates worth voting for in modern politics. A rare one or two do pop up now and again, but mostly in the 3rd party groups who have virtually no chance of getting elected.  Narrowing it down to the two main groups in politics, I believe that it's been a long time since either has come up with a worthy candidate.

As to explain my other post:  I study older politics more than I study the politics of today.  I never pay attention in classes, so most of my knowledge comes from books, reading, conversations and research that I do myself.  Republicans, the 'conservative' group, has pushed further and further towards the liberal allignment, and is less what they once represented. 

I would like to see an extreme perspective, someone who's got something so crazy to say that it just might work.  Someone who isn't afraid to tell it like it is; who isn't afraid of being politically correct.  And most of all, I want to see someone who doesn't feel they have to appologize for being an American, becuase I for one will NOT say I'm sorry for supporting the nation people literally die to come to.

I love my right to vote, however in most situations the choices are awful. It is almost always a choice of the lesser evil. The only time I didnt feel that way was with Howie ( Dean) I adored him, and he stood for basicaly all I stand for.

I research all of the canidates, and I am quite politicaly active. I dont listen to the talking heads.. I do my own research. In politics by the time they reach the point of being viable for a campaign of that sort of status.. they have had rumors, and prob. many things in thier "file" Some you take with a grain of salt.. some you look into closer.

Some types of people are going to draw more fire because people fear them. ( such as oh.. lets see.. Blacks, Women, non Christians, Jews )

Politics in general is 90% BS.. but we have to have some system to have the voice of the people heard. ( even if it is often corupt.. or not perfect.. at least we have something. )

i agree....i love the right to vote....and i always do go vote.....but most times i feel like i just voted for the lesser of the evils, which is still evil.....

i really think the folks who would make the best president, congressman, mayor, school board member, etc. have too much sense to want to run for the office, if that makes sense

The closest I've come to that is Ross Perot; sadly, he got a bit weird at the end.

It does; reminds me of a scene in a recently-read Robert B. Parker novel, one of the characters described politics as bullshit, and asked "what kind of person is attracted to that? Bullshiters".

So what are Hillary's issues that you support? Her view on immigration? Her view on the Iraq war? Her view on the economy and how best to improve it? Her view on taxation? On these, what are the specifics that you really like?

To the OP, I am slowly narrowing the field in both camps. I am an independent conservative, while I usually vote republican or libertarian, there has been a good 1/4 of the time I have voted democrat. I look to the issues, the voting record, and the sincerity of the candidate.

Over all I like Ron Paul, but he has some odd ideas on a few things.

I do not believe in voting for the lesser of two evils, as there is always someone you can vote for that you believe in more, than another candidate.

      There are kinky conservatives here as well, Tinge.  I'm very happy with one of the choices in the upcoming primary, but whether he can get past the Fundy wing of the Repubs in the primary is another question entirely.

      I don't care for any of my options on the Dem side.

I believe candidates have only two positions they can take.

The first is…. This is what I stand for and this is what I will do…nothing else.

We’ve had too many of this type of leader of late … stuck in their ways and too stubborn to change.

The second way…. This is what I believe but I will follow the wishes of the people as their representative.

This is the type of person I am looking for. One that will compromise if needed for the benefit of the nation.

I think Obama is this type of person.

I'm a reactionary.  As long as Hitler-ree, Wudy and Col. Abraham Curtis from King's ''Dreamcatcher'' {McCain} are not elected whatever...

I'd love to see R. Paul get the nomination tho....
