This coming year I am enrolled in a Dominant's Mentor's group. Now I know most on these boards do not associate my name with Topping, but on the rare ocassion I do, and in the past year or so I have found more and more people that have brought out that rare ocassion. I even created a switch profile [8\|] (SensualistOne - there's even newer pictures there.) Anyway, the topic of the thread. I was thinking about the topics of the Intensives, where I get to learn various types of play styles, and when it comes down to it, as a Top, I just don't like as many styles of play as I do as a bottom. So I was wondering if there was any correlation to prefered role and variety of styles of play in that role? If you have no prefered role if you enjoy an equal variety of styles of play? I am not just talking about play that you actually know how to do, because, God knows, I would be severely limited in that case...but rather, what you know how to do and what you would be interested in learning how to do, both practically and impractically. take care chelle

humiliation play, something I have NO interest bottoming to, but I love the idea of topping a humiliation slut. (more of the "non" verbal variety, like pretending to be a foot stool, or writing stuff like foot slut, or panty whore on his skin with washable marker or body paint.)hmmm that is the only one I can think of at the moment.

There are so many more things I enjoy and find to be primary interests as a sub, but I sure didn't start out that way. I think it's probably the same on both sides and we grow into interests as we become comfortable with more.

I'll agree with the general consensus here and say yes. I definitely have many more things I enjoy as a dominant than I do as a sub, and I'm much more willing to do long term or 24/7 power exchange as a dominant than a submissive; as a submissive I generally only want experiences lasting for the duration of a "scene". And while we all seem to have more things we like in the perferred or more common role, that might not always be the same. I could certainly see someone liking more variety in their less perferred role merely because it was more experimental and they'd already found their niche' on the other side.

You're correct, GeekFreak, I made a generalization, I am only halfass paying attention here, sorry for that. I would modify it, but it's too late. My presumptions are about me, I apologize for the wording.

There are many thing I would like to try as a top, and I think GeekFreak is correct in saying it is due to the experimentation desire, as i know already much (not all) of what I like as a bottom.

From birth I was interested in aspects of this lifestyle. I thought of myself as a Dom until my first long term relationship. That relationship was essentially vanella, spiced with bedroom role play and hot spanking. Since we were an equal opportunity couple we occasionally did the switch - especially when my lady thought our fantasy sex life was drifting into the real world. I think she thought that it was kind of a wake up call for me. The problem is I discovered I really like it. In the real world I had responsibility and had to make tough decisions. Bottoms have few decisions to make, they are kept, controlled and loved. On the short term - I found the role a welcome release. Then again I felt I was predominately a Dom. You see - I guess for me - that might be why I define myself as a switch. The Lady I'm with has a lot to do with the roles we play between the sheets. I stopped worrying about it awhile ago and now - just enjoy. Cheers
