'07 got us all 365 days closer to kicking Bush's sorry ass out of the White House.

There were a couple of good things.  I finally broke up with the biggest liar and thief on the planet.  She is out of my life, and I have been having a wonderful time dating other people.  On the plus side, I heard she got popped for felony hot check writing in September.  I know it's wrong to bask in the misery of others, but it felt so good to hear that.  My life has been so much better this year than last year.  I hope 2008 brings more of the same.

Coming back home after being away for so long, and seeing that the friends who were still here had missed me.

Buying a house.  Hearing that the seller cussed for 10 minutes before accepting the offer was a close second.

Spending an entire day from sunrise to sunset atop Mt Mitchell on a flawless spring day with perfectly clear air and at least 100 mi visibility. Nothing to do but soak in the beauty of nature.

Finally getting a job after being unemployed for 13 months.  Gotta love the Michigan economy!
Close second, spending two and a half weeks in Phoenix and seeing a lot of western nature's beauty.

Being unemployed, wracking up medical bills because of no insurance, coping with being single all year, my dog dying at 8 years old, being in a horrible car accident right before Christmas, new lines and scars on my face, gaining weight, chipping my teeth, getting 8 inches of my hair hacked off by a rabid hair stylist, not getting kissed for my 25th new years eve in a row (yep, that's every single one of them..)... Wait.. sorry.. uhh...what was the question again?

Let's see.

I got Married, bought a house, foud out the Stork is on its way, adpoted two dogs, and won a Nintendo Wii.

You could say that becoming a family man has been the best part for me.

So I'm sitting here a bit depressed- because the flights did eventually leave and in two hours I could have been arriving in Austin after all.  But at the time I made the choice, it seemed like the best option rather than spending the night at the airport and shuffling things all around.

As I sat here in my old bedroom, I thought I'd look for some old toys I used to have. All of "my stuff" that I left behind is now in boxes in the closet. I open one- barbie stuff, empty cd cases, and then I open one and it has my high school memory book. It has been lost to me for years!!!

I loved looking through it again, I'm a total memorabilia collector and I still have class pictures and patches from elementary school. I can't wait to show it off and scan the pictures.

But one interesting thing I found was this, from a keychain I made in May of 1997 when I was 17.

On one side I have a poem that I felt embodied a deep sense of myself:
We part at the crossroads. You leave with your joys and problems, I with mine. Alone, I look down the road. Each one must walk ones own path.

The world is dazzling, I alone am dull. Others strive for achievement, I follow a lonely path.

On the other side is a quote from Deng Ming-Dao:
Upon completion comes fulfillment. With fulfillment comes liberation. LIberations allows you to go on. Even death is not a true ending. LIfe is infinite continuation.

The year's end is coming; I feel great contentment. Completion means rest. Rest means renewal. Renewal means new beginnings.

Thanks to the universe for shoving my ass down this path.

2008 was an awesome year for me :-)

recieved a second totem
loved, lived and laughed

Nothing great comes to mind. Did I have a few good times? Eh, somewhat. Perhaps my birthday was the best day of the year as I spent it with the best friends one could have at a fetish event and got beaten into a near pulp. lol Other than that, not a tremendous amount of greatness was to be had. Lots of minor changes for the better like getting my first college degree and starting on my second, getting minor raises at work, making the local paper in my area for outstanding customer service at my place of employment and perhaps learning more about my submissiveness in this journey I am on. But overall, nothing truly spectacular could be singuled out as being the best part of 2007.

You're doing all that in 2008? You really have it all planned out for next year. Way to go. But let's not get ahead of ourselves.
