I am watching the Sci-Fi channel's Twilight Zone marathon for the umpteenth New Year's Eve in a row. And even though it is now a lonely tradition, I do still enjoy hearing that you miss not being able to be here watching it with me, your hand gently tapping a cadence on my wooden leg, a gentle ironic smile playing around your lips while Rod Serling smokes forever in black and white flickers.
The children miss you so; they thrash in their cages, bleating and refusing to eat from the dog dishes you made for them the night they were born. I almost hate locking them up in the basement every night.
If you could only see how I pine for you, walking from window to window in the denim widow's weeds I picked up at the Wal-Mart on clearance.
Whisper to me. I am utterly alone in the darkness. The pen I have been using to forge your name on your Social Security checks is running dry ...
