Pahunk.... This is Sir Kens own view, and not that of Gordon Brown, his boss. The speech you mention goes on to add
“We must protect ourselves from these atrocious crimes without abandoning our traditions of freedom.”
Which is odd as last year he said this, while trying to convince everyone of the need to tap our phones.

As you can say, he seems to contradicted himself twice, once by using the word terrorist last year, yet changing his mind now he is in higher office. Also by on the one hand wanting to eavesdrop on the nation, while on the other not wanting to abandon " our traditions of freedom.
I suspect many Moslems will be just as offended at the use of the words " Death cult " as against " Terrorist " Sir Ken has also had adverse publicity for using his official car to visit his secret Mistress ( The car is for State use only )
I very much doubt his appointment had anything to do with the fact he worked with Cherie Blair, to think otherwise would just be cynical.... Like so many others at the top of our political trough, its a case of one eye on the job and one on the headlines.
