Well the Democrats put enormous amount of money in Iowa, even more than the GOP and candidates like Obama was pushing for big, big turnouts for months. That's really an insignificant number at this point.

The latest poll shows head to head that John McCain would beat every Democratic candidate. And Rudy vs Hillary is a statistical dead heat.
However Huckabee would be murdered by both Hillary and Obama. I mean by more than 10 points.

The last thing the Democrats want is to go up against McCain. If he gets the nomination, the Democrats lose the independents.

Muttling -> RE: Huckabee, Projected Winner? (1/3/2008 11:22:42 PM)

I am decidely independent so I only give the primaries an overall glance.

I hope to HECK the Democratic Party does not nominate Obama.   It will be 2004 all over again with someone just a pathetic as John Kerry.   (Please note, I hate Bush but vote for Kerry??????)     Obama has lots of fufu ideas but not a good grip on how to make them happen and an innate ability to screw up his wording when trying to explain his fufu ideas.   Kerry suffered the exact same foot in mouth syndrome and I can't imagine anyone like that making a good president.

That said, I know little about Hubkabee.   I have great respect for McCain and Thompson, but they are big underdogs at this point.   I like Gulliani a lot, but I don't see him getting a Republican nod with his positions on abortion and gay rights.

This election is shaping up to be an incredible mess.

Right now this was a major loss for Mitt Romney who spent a fortune in Iowa and now if he loses New Hampshire the losses could snowball on him. Huckabee's win helps both McCain and Guiliani in a strategic way.

While troubling......I wholeheartedly agree here. My intuitive prowess tells me that the bones from the skelton’s in one of Huckabee's hidden closets will soon begin to rattle. No shit – mark my words here.

While things look good for Huckabee right now......don't look too closely. Huckabee is not/will not be the Republican's man.

Someone in a thread a few days ago mentioned the ''Howard Dean'' media scenario as a parallel to what might happen with Ron Paul.

The scenario is the correct one......but only with the wrong candidate. Huckabee - will be the guy that gets the axe.

On the other side......this oughta scare the hell out of Hiliary, her supporters and the Republicans. Edward's did far better than most of the prognosticators had originally predicted.

Make no mistake....The guy the Republicans fear the most, is Edwards. As much as I think Edwards is a phony MF.....he is much slicker with his ''poor boy'' message than any of the Republican candidates are with the ''boogey man'' / '' fake war on terror'' slogans.

With more outsourcing, forclosures and a sustained gloomy economic outlook on the horizon, Edward’s anti-corporatist,  ''poor boy'' message will resonate with the masses at a far better pace than the ''war on terror.''

In 2008.....American's will come to their senses and crawl-out from underneath their beds....and fear the boogey man no more.

Huckabee is the candidate of the evangelicals (which makes up 66% of the GOP base in Iowa). But he has real problems with conservatives who do not place religion high on the list of things, He also is not well liked on conservative talk radio. I think the GOP is going to kill his campaign over the next few weeks.

Much appreciated!!!!!

I need lots of encouragement to get over the last election.

EDIT: To fully clarify my position, I am not at all opposed to Hillary either but she is playing her cards VERY close to the vest right now.   She is a smart politican and I withhold judgement until later in her campain when she starts giving a lot more details on her proposals.

Well, time for that bath, and two hands holding razor blades.

If huckabee keeps the momentum and gets the nomination the liberals will be happy. They'll get one of there own whether the Repubs or Dems win.

I'm on a new laptop and I lost all my bookmarks. Has anyone a quick link to the people in the running and their stance on issues please?

Ranger, I agree and Edwards made a great speech last night as well.
I think Huckabee is peaking.
The Republicans in N.H. are different than the Republicans in Iowa.
On CNN last night they said that there's hunger for change in the country and that that hunger will exclude Clinton.
I think the Clintons are yesterdays news and Hillary's speech last night was nothing but platitudes.
After listening to her you *still* don't know where she stands on the issues.
Will she enforce our Immigration laws, I seriously doubt it.
CNN said that that is "the number one issue in Iowa" last night.
If Edwards wants to prevail he needs to jump all over that issue as it's the number one or number two issue in N.H.
I'm sure that Republicans are let down that Hillary came in third too! She'd be very easy to run against.
Edwards would be very tough to run against because what he's saying about the Republicans and all the lobbyists and these so called "trade" deals and outsourcing in Washington is true.

You think Huckabee is a liberal? Who are you Genghis Khan? Reazlly Huckabee is just about the farthest right of all the candidates still running.

mnottertail -> RE: Huckabee, Projected Winner? (1/4/2008 8:57:24 AM)

As an aside, I notice that the DNC is awfully heavy handed with anyone in the delegations of caucus that doesn't toe their exact line.

A viable alternative; when Florida is not owned by your brother, I am thinking.

Huckabee's record is more liberal on crime, taxes, and immigration than any other GOP running.

DomKen -> RE: Huckabee, Projected Winner? (1/4/2008 12:09:23 PM)

Huckabee :

Opposes abotion in all cases, civil unions, quality science education and fair treatment of all US servicepeople.

Supports the death penalty, the present "strategy" in iraq and an international AIDS policy designed to fail.

On top of all that he thinks his deity is actively intervening on his behalf during his political campaigns. Including stating that bloggers overloading a hotel's wireless system so that the MSM reporters couldn't file a story that made him look bad in time to make the evening news were doing "god's work."

His stance on crime is hypocritical at best. He has released "born again" prisoners but vowed to have police raid medical marijuana users no matter the circumstances.

The Fair Tax proposal he supports is at best a non starter and at worst a disaster the far right wants to trick the US into accepting knowing that it would bankrupt the government and return us to a laissez faire situation that is the ultimate goal of the big business sorts who support the GOP. Why exactly should manufacturing and distribution businesses by virtually exempt from paying federal taxes and why should that burden be shifted to the consumer anyway? How is that fair?

luckydog1 -> RE: Huckabee, Projected Winner? (1/4/2008 12:25:04 PM)

Mnot, whose brother owns Florida?  Is that some sort of snipe at Jeb Bush?  He's not the governor of Florida anymore.

mnottertail -> RE: Huckabee, Projected Winner? (1/4/2008 12:29:35 PM)

No, it is how GW won florida.

Think of that in relation to what I have said about the DNC and what options are open to rig  an election if your brother doesnt own florida.

See if that helps you decipher the possibilities of the first post by me we are alluding to.

Ron

Musicmystery -> RE: Huckabee, Projected Winner? (1/4/2008 12:38:47 PM)

All the other portions of this debate aside, Huckabee scares me..

Voting for someone because of reliigion? I don't want to live in a theocracy. Isn't that Iran?

mnottertail -> RE: Huckabee, Projected Winner? (1/4/2008 12:44:38 PM)

That may or may not be of any consequence...everybody votes for someone because of something........

Alot of people voted for GW because of his 'deep religious convicitions'  Rudy blew hisself up accepting the warm handclasp of Pat Robertson.........

This religious thing has been fomenting since Reagan.

How far are you willing to accept the Priest-Kings?  Melchezidek? Most any ancient kingdom before the rise of Papal power?

Not a new concept even here.... Pilgrims?

I don't care for it at all, but it is a fact of life.

Knute AngurVadel

luckydog1 -> RE: Huckabee, Projected Winner? (1/4/2008 12:45:07 PM)

Mnot, so you are saying the DNC is rigging the vote on a national scale?

Jeb isn't Govenor of Florida anymore.  I guress you haven't gotten your new talking points with the writers strike.

So now you are alledging fraud in the 2000 Floriday Primary election(won by Bush)?  Thats a new one.
