I would repeat the mantra from the right, that if you haven`t done anything wrong, you needn`t worry about the government spying on you(and us),or looking at emails (and posts on CM<wink>),checking our bank records and mail,or collecting information on citizens. I mean, privacy rights are sooo, .... pre-9/11. Right? Why do you insist in lumping all of us on the right with Bush, Owner? I never supported the Patriot Act, and my position is the position of many conservatives. The neo-cons have taken to calling people like me paleo-conservatives and they dislike us more than they dislike those of you on the left. We are the ones that routinely pull votes away from them in Republican primaries, and we have been fighting tooth and nail to take back our party from the Christian fundies, the Wilsonism globalists, and the war hawks. If you really believe that the Patriot Act is as wrong as I do, then you may want to take a look at the positions of the mainstream Democratic candidates. The Lady Hillary is not going to change anything if she is elected President. Ok then, some questions. Which party has been trying(unsuccessfully)to change the Patriot Act,and which one has blocked those efforts? Anytime the dems attempted to put our nation back under the US Constitution, the republicans, both neo and paleo, scuttled those efforts. Why is that? In fact,'07' was a record setting year for conservative Senate filibusters(a rule that allows just one single guy,the right to stop any bill) at 62.(with one filibuster by Chris Dodd (d-Conn)) That was the rank and file republican party, the whole lot of ya,marching in lock-set with Bush . And, America is to believe the new republican talking points, that last year`s congress, was a "do nothing congress"?LOL After it was the GOP that blocked everything, including any action on Iraq, other than clubbing the democrats into giving Bush more money. Senate republicans successfully blocked the democrat`s agenda.Successful though,in the way Ted Bundy was successful, not the good kind of success. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=17441671 Lawmakers in Congress end the year with a few major accomplishments such as the energy bill, some failures such as the immigration overhaul, and a number of compromises and frustrations. Democrats, who took the reins of both the House and Senate in January, acknowledge feeling deeply frustrated by a Republican Senate minority that set a new record for filibusters this year, blocking much of the Democratic agenda. http://www.mcclatchydc.com/homepage/story/18218.html A good article, left leaning ,but fair. http://home.ourfuture.org/assets/block-and-blame.pdf One last question. Can you list the any and all elected republican representatives and senators, who are apposed the Patriot Act(and voted that way)?Or any that acted against the bill?
