Lori Hoffman, a San Diego-area emergency room nurse, said she was sexually assaulted Oct. 23 by two masked men in front of her boyfriend, San Diego Surfing Academy owner Pat Weber, who was forced to kneel at gunpoint for 45 minutes. They were at a campground with about 30 tents, some 200 miles south of the border.

Well what do these people expect?
Mexico is a third world foreign country.
You can't even carry a gun there (legally) for protection.
And if you get robbed too bad, you're on your own, the "police" there won't even help you.
Americans should stay out of Mexico.

But...the Mexican gov't is well aware of the problem and has taken away the weapons of the police force in two cities...one of which that was mentioned in the article. They are cracking down on police involved crime.

I think things will be better than normal within two years.

While they're at it, I hope they get rid of the people that have caused over 500 women to diasappear or be murdered in the city of Juarez. Probably not though...since white tourists are so overvalued and Indio women undervalued in that country...hell, around the world.

The whole system in Mexico is corrupt from the top down. When the police are mostly all on the take there is no surprise that there is major crime. I would be happy if not one more American dollar was spent in Mexico. Americans should spend their entertainment and vacation money right here in the USA.

Rope, I was going to go to Sweeden and Ireland this summer but not now with the exchange rate the way it is.
It was $1.18 to one Euro last year but now it's about $1.45 to a Euro! Crazy, I'm not going to pay almost 50% more for everything.
You have to laugh at the way our govt deals with Mexico like it's a legitimate country or something.
It's totally corrupt and run by drug smugglers.
This Huckabee guy, Ron Paul and Mitt Romney say they'll start enforcing our immigration laws so if they get in they should print up one of those guides like Mexico had about how to sneak into the U.S. and stick it in the pockets of the people they start deporting, "Welcome to Mexico!"

Why go to Mexico when you can go to Florida or Puerto Rico?

The Banditos have been in Mexico forever!! Even the Mexican population who go across the border to see family get nailed and robbed. When I lived in So Calif the guy that did our gardening had gotten robbed and almost died from being beaten. If you want to go to Mexico stick to the high traveled areas like Cancun/ Riviera Maya etc.. Even Los Cabos but alot of the beaches are not swimable there. Anywhere you go that is considered a third world country you have to be careful. Heck you even have to be careful in some areas in the big cities in the States. I work in the travel industry and have not had any clients have any issues in Mexico. But then again.. you get what you pay for at times..

It never used to be that way. Through the 80's mid 90's Mexico was practically my second home. I never had a single problem down there. During that time....the people were always friendly and liked Americans.

Along with a long time girl friend, we frequently traveled into the non-tourist areas of the Chiapas and Vera Cruz. Again... never had a problem

Looking for a place to lay blame for Mexico's problems --- Look directly at NAFTA.

NAFTA displaced millions of ''simple life'' Mexican farmers and their families, causing them to flee into the large tourist areas and mega cities of the interior---with no work.

NAFTA and greedy politicians are the root of Mexico's problems {And our problems too}

HA, my buddy went to Mexico for a vacation a few years ago and he ain't going back.

But get this straight, he went down there with a bunch of money - for drugs and hookers. He is corrupt, but they got him beat by a mile.

In fact the same guy went to Costa Rica and almost got killed as well.

And he goes looking for it. This fucker does not scare easily, in fact he is back in the joint for dealing. But when you get a guy like that who will not go back, something is wrong. Normal people ? Forget it. Better to give Bangladesh or Afghanistan a try.

Every place and everything is horrible. Oh my God....Tourism dropped 5%...Big fucking deal. Though I have never been to the Baja Peninsula. It is a trip that I plan on making...I will fly to my destination. The world is sooooo fucking scary. Most of you should stay home. even if some how you found the stones to travel abroad you would not be doing America any great favors. We already have a serious good will problem and sending out more ignorant and ugly Americans will do little to improve our position.

Join the army ....You get to vistit exotic places see exotic people and kill them.
