I saw the term sub drop used on the profile New2NYC and the guy said if you don't know what it is, you better find out.

Does anyone know what that means?   Thanks!

It's a low and gloomy feeling that a sub gets after an intense experience with a dom.  Different people feel sub drop in different ways, and some people don't get it at all.

There have been several threads about it.

Well to be cynical, for a lot of subs it gives them an excuse to act like helpless depressed bitches who rant about how the person they played with is really just a loser asshole a week after they play.

OMG!! That gave me the best laugh today. I really needed that. Thank you!! What is scary is it funny but true in some cases. Not  to say sub drop isn't real but some do act like drama queens/kings about it.

I usually get a down feeling after an intense play , the severeness varies. I know it is coming and deal with it like an adult.

omg I dealt with it ONE time and thought I was loosing my freaking mind! the symptoms can be really minor to holy hell a person can feel like they are being posessed!
Until I had expierenced it first hand, I had never heard of it. I think of it as the complete and opposite balance to sub space.

Subdrop is different for different people. When I do experience it, it is a hard crash like hitting a brick wall. It lasts for 30 minutes or so then I am good to go. My wife however experiences depression like symptoms the next day, almost all day.

I have read some things that indicate sub drop can come from physical and mental "trauma". Trauma here is anything that puts the body on alert, including conscensual pain and what not. Pretty much the system just fails and they drops. As someone who has a lot of ink this seems to make sense. Sometimes small inkwork is a living hell if my mind just isn't in it, and sometimes a person just can't continue getting tattooed past a certain point, the body just can't take it, even if the spirit is willing.

personally, this slave has never experienced it as anything negative, it's more like sub-high for this slave, but when others say it, she translates it to mean:
i need attention

some report the need for cuddling, pampering, extra pats on the head, etc. after a scene...for days.

For me, it's a direct result of not being in top physical shape before play. Which means that staying up all night playing hard, not having eaten for 15 hours, not drinking enough water, no sleep left me in the same shape you would expect a person to be in who ran a marathon untrained, no carb loading, no sleep, no stopping for sips of water or bites of orange along the way.

I get weepy, can't focus, drive like shit, can't be trusted with sharp knives etc. I need to sleep damn near round the clock for 24 hours.

If I don't play when I'm in bad shape to begin with, then all I need afterwards is water and a short nap, and then some food. Then an early night and take it easy the next day. I don't plan intense play the day before I have to drive 6 hours or have anything requiring more energy and focus than usual.

"Sub drop" is an embarassing mishap that can be avoided by assidiously acquiring technical skill before attempting suspension play.

Actually, that can be a lot of fun if you think ahead and place a trampoline underneath.

It's the come down from the adrenaline rush of physical play. For me after something really intense I have to drink a lot of water and I usually end up curled up in a soft blanket. I find that if I don't take a few minutes to come down from the high I get when I do play I get really sick to my stomach and rather moody and just generally icky.

Jokes aside, I have never seen serious sub-drop.  I haven't even seen much need for aftercare.  I judge the need for aftercare to have ended when the sub in question has sufficiently recovered herself to get up, go to the kitchen, make me a cup of tea, return and present it properly.  Aside from the fact that I like a cup of tea at that point, it provides me with some reassurance that the sub has returned to a functioning mental and physical state.

The end-of-play to start-of-tea-making aftercare interval has never been more than ten minutes.  Usually much less.  Maybe I'm just not hitting hard enough???

Oh, I've seen serious sub drop, and it usually doesn't happen within the amount of time necessary to brew a cup of tea.  It comes on hard the next day, and sometimes it lasts for days and days.

I don't think it's a function of how hard you hit, either.

Sub-drop doesn't hit immediately. It hits the next day usually.

As far as aftercare goes, that depends on the person you're with. I need sleep immediately afterwards. I can get by without it but not if I'm expected to function well. So if he wants me up and moving, then he has to drive.

Yeah, subdrop happens usually about 24 hours after.  One other thought regarding after-care... I could get up and get a cup of tea or provide service of relatively unstrenuous sorts within a few minutes sometimes, but that doesn't mean that the D/s dynamic isn't strengthened a great deal when more care is taken.  Sir takes a lot more time than that, and I have to say that the mental and emotional connection we have been able to form during aftercare has made future sessions and play far more intense because I'm able to surrender more completely.  Just a thought to think on. ;)  Of course, YMMV.

I wanted to reiterate this point ... the aftercare provided by Master builds my trust and yes, allows me to surrender more completely.  I have not experienced subspace nor sub drop, as of yet, but I imagine the trust that is built would help me cope better with these as well.
