If I was still living out there I would go with you in a heartbeat.  Seems I missed a LOT of stuff while I was in NYC.  Good luck; I hope you find someone to help you out!

Oh child, would I ever! To drop everything & fly to New York for the Rubberball! I hope you're able to find someone to "take" you there; $60 is a pretty steep increase. It's a shame that there are probably hundreds of women from all over the country who would enjoy THAT party!

I wish...schedule conflict.  It's my wee one's birthday party that weekend.

G'morning all:

To the OP. I think you should stop being cheap and just bite the bullet if you seek to attend. Many events in this lifestyle are expensive. TES Fest, Black Rose, etc. Get used to the fact that if you want to socialize within the BDSM community and mingle at these affairs, it will cost you. Even the local club, Paddles, has increased it's door entry fees.

Stay safe, play nice, & share your toys w/ others...

I think the OP is being incredibly reasonable, not cheap.  If two people are going, why not get a couple discount?  We're kinky, not stupid.

G'evening all:

It's not relative. If you have to worry about nickels and dimes like that, why even bother going? You're still going to need a place to hang your hat for the night and hotels in Manhattan aren't cheap. Add on the cost of meals, drinks, what-have-you, etc. If you're going to do something, do it right or don't do it at all. Anytime I attend an event, I make sure I'm solvent enough that I don't have to worry about trifling details like a few dollars.

Makes sense to me. It could also lead to a fun friendship.

I think they'd make a stunning couple.
