All- did a search and only found one mention of storing play implements in a cedar chest.  Has anyone done this?  I'm wondering if the cedar fumes - while appropriate for clothing - might have a negative effect on some of the rubber or leather items?  Just wanting to make sure my storage solution won't ruin some toys.

I like my leather to smell like leather personaly.

I have a standing chest that I use as a bedside table. It has multiple drawers and is perfect for holding my frequently used items. It's matching one is on the other side of my bed, so it is simply a nice peice of furniture.

As far as toy storage and the like after sanitizing them I always allow them to dry and place them in thier own zip lock baggies. For my submissives they have thier own personal toys, and they are marked on the outside of the bag of who it belongs to. No cross contamination that way.

Any of my braided hair whips get a bag as well so that they do not become tangled between play.

I am all about keeping the toys sanitized and ready for use so the bags are the perfect soultion. Also easier to pack for going on trips.

I think the general rules for storing most items are normal temprature, humitidy and protect from UV light.  Gwyn, has a valid issue with not throwing off the leather smell with the cedar.

The fumes will not affect leather and rubber except to make them smell like cedar. (Not a bad thing although some people do associate that odor with old people)

The cedar oils might have some negative affect so you might consider using a cotton cloth to keep the toys from actually touching the cedar. There is a small miniroty of people who are actually allergic to cedar oil and cedar fumes.

Good suggestions on all of these.  I do keep all of the rubber items cleaned and in plastic bins.  Leather items I would most likely hang up in the closet since they do need more air.  I might also somehow line the chest to avoid those cedar oils - we don't want any nasty allergic reactions.

Oh goodness no.. they need to breathe... They have a special drawer of thier own. *smiles*

Only insertables, and the hair whip go into bags. And the clothespins.. amazing where you will find those lil boogers days after a scene.

I think about toys smelling like cedar and have a bad mental reaction... A lot of people really dislike that smell, and it will seep in. An armoire, or I think you all call the small version chifferobes, would work better.
I live alone and have no system past two buck skulls with 12 point racks to hang the whips and ropes on- air is good! I can lift the whole thing off it's hook and lay it behind the sofa if my parents come over. LOL. And the other things live in a chest of drawers so I can get them quickly for fun at home.
My experience of storing anything in plastic tubs has been bad. Rubber is not immune to mildew.
If you have kids you need a hidden closet, like the back of a walk in, padlocked and set up inside to properly store things. I've seen them a lot and given the investment you've made well worth it. People have gun storage set up the same way.

Whatever you do, don't store them in your night stand!

I'm cleaning the house one day when my very young son pops out of my room holding my fleshy colored dildo saying, 'mommy mommy what's this big carrot do;? I said, 'son, that's not a carrot and it doesn't do anything for you'. hehe

Thats bloodly hilarious!

The whole upstairs is off limts to the Um. So we are decently set... if the lil bugger goes up the stairs he is with one of us getting something.
