Collar Design - 1/7/2008 5:44:29 PM

Hey again everyone, long time no post. I was over in the US for 10 days, and collared my pet. Of course, this makes me happy beyond explaining, so I wont drown you all in my euphoria at this moment in time (although it's very tempting). I have come to the realisation that there is no art forum here on CM, so, I guess General is as close as I get to appropriate for this post.

So, I have had an idea for a collar in my head for some time, but hadn't gotten it down on paper until over the past 2 days. It varied from the original intended design and ended up being more elegant than as streamlined as I had first intended. So, the initial colour scheme no longer suits it. This it is uncoloured, and will remain so until I can come up with a scheme that I am satisfied with.

Without further ado, here is the collar design I came up with. I already inked the outlines so I'm not changing it. I know there are a few errors in dimensions, physics, and such, but stuff it. I'm mostly putting it up here as a form of self expression, just so you all know.

P
ity you can't post images in the forums, or I would have just done that. Any comments are welcome, and so are ideas for colour schemes!

Eeeew, nu, I would so not be happy with velcro ><  And I'm quite certain he wouldn't either. I'm assuming it's more mechanical, linking the pieces so it seems seamless. I'm just guessing though, we didn't go into details. xxxo.

Hehe, it's leather (mostly) the clasps at the front are metal, so are the chains (obviously) and the hearts. The back slots together and there are different notches correlating with the different placement of clasp settings at the front. It wraps around itself so that is also why it slots at the back. The chains to which the lock is affixed are a decent length (not entirely shown in the picture) so that it can still be locked when the collar is adjusted.

I'm glad you all like it.

The velcro was a joke.  Apparently not a good one.

That's gorgeous.  I'm sure your pet would love it, what pet wouldn't?

Nice, it has something besides cookie cutter straight lines.

Puts you about 1000% ahead of the strap cutter garbage most out there are making. Have you looked into doing a serpentine profile? And a touch up toner, rather than a dye-will give you more vibrant colors-even if you have to go over it a few times.

Nice, except for a few little things I would change, but very nice overall.

My main concern is the enlarged portion in the back.  I feel like a collar should be narrower in back, not wider.  Wider will hamper her ability to have her head turned up, for instance, when lying on her stomach, know what I mean?  The extra width will get in the way and press into the back of her head.  Also, I'm not a fan of little jangly bits, like those little hearts dangling off the front, but hey, its yours not mine, so good job!  Very nice drawing, too.

Thank you all for the comments, I'm glad you like it. I very much doubt I'll be getting it made but I'll certainly be designing more in the future. I realise the piece at the back is not ergonomic, but the collar is more for aesthetics than functionality. Suffice it to say you would not be able to put it on or take it off unless you had either built the collar yourself, knew of its exact design, or had studied it very carefully. It is the most complicated collar design I have ever seen so far as what is required to actually put it on.

To those who would buy it if it was made, sorry, but I'm not going to get it made. The mechanics of it are very complex and getting the metalwork done (as none of the parts even exist) would cost a decent amount. When I say mechanics, I mean it. There are parts of the design not represented in the picture, but I'm not going to devulge them anyway ~^

A note to those who like Anthro's/Furries, the next picture in my gallery will be a collared furry, for a number of reasons, but it's just a heads up. I know this isn't an art site so I wont be posting all my pics up here in threads, just the occasional collar when I design one. As for collar designs, I am likely to contract Vivi of Radiance Bound to create one or two collars at some point in the future when I come up with more viable designs.

Wow, that is truly beautiful.  I love the design, the heart pendant with 'pet' engraved, and all the other little designs around the color which add to its uniqueness.

As far as color scheme - while I don't know your relationship's dynamics, I'd decide whether you're using silver or gold throughout, then choose an appropriate shade that matches the metal, i.e., if you use silver, dark blues would look fabulous as the main collar color and you could select a lighter blue (but in the same color swatch as the other blue) to accent the piece in various areas, such as the swirls which look like they could be a different shade.  Or you could use silver there to contrast, rather than a lighter blue.

If you decide to go with gold throughout, I could see a deep maroon red color - something elegant and top-of-the-line looking for the main collar, accented perhaps with more gold or possibly a rich cream color.

It's late. I'm rambling on and am not even sure I'm making sense.  Congratulations on making such a lovely design.  I'd love to see it when complete!
