For years I've always wondered why Tin Foil has a brigh shiny side and a dull side. Can anyone tell me why this is? Is it done on purpose or just the effect from making it?

As for those who don't know the answer, well go ahead and share your BDSM experiences with Tin Foil since that's what you probably thought I was refering to.

It's a result of the manufacturing process.

Foil is shiny on only one side because as it passes through the final foil mill, two thicknesses of foil are rolled together. The sides facing each other emerge with the dull finish, while the sides in contact with the foil mills come out shinier – due to the burnishing effect of the rollers.

*grinz* i had to find out!

Tin foil has a shiny side so it will reflect government mind-control rays. When fashioned into a hat, it can provide portable protection so a person can go to work, shopping, out on the town, etc. with safety.

The dull side of tin foil is so, if any mind control rays do leak in, they will be absorbed rather than reflected back at a person.

i don't know why it has the 2 different surfaces but i like it. the shiny side is good for covering while baking but it is more reflective so it does help brown a bit whereas the other side doesn't. ok, so maybe this is all in my head, lol, but it works for me.

i was once told that if one had knee replacements, wrapping large amounts of tin foil around the knees would allow one to pass through the metal detectors without setting them off.

I have been told in the past that the shiny side reflects heat, which is why some people notice additional browning, whereas the matte side absorbs more heat.

Okay, checking memory banks,,,,,lots of experiences, but none involving tin foil!!!!

this is what I know too that the shiney side reflects and the dull absorbs, I put the shiny side inwards when I use it to cover baking dishes and the dull out , people, before the new heatmirror type windows came out, used it on the sunny side of their homes to cover windows, shiny side out to reflect the sun, they have used it for cheap tanning sheets outside also. so many uses for tin foil, LOL

FnF,

I was astounded to see you write Tin Foil because up til now I thought I was the only one who still used this term since it is now aluminum foil. *happy smile* I feel less alone in the world now , just another reason I love the CM community.

According to Lewis Black, (who is one of my idols) Tin foil is for Pat Robertson supporters to wear so we know who they are.

RiotGirl.... what in the world did you do with tin foil as a teen? *groan* ok, i am sheltered, apparently. maybe i just don't want to think of all the edges if it were rolled or balled up.

RE: bdsm ideas for tin foil.

Isn't tin foil on tooth fillings meant to be painful? Or is that a myth?

Here we call it "Alfoil" being alluminium foil however I digress.. Find a large lady with a huge bossom wearing bra and cover said bra with alfoil, cover her loins appropriately and add leggings with straps criss crossed up them, add sandles, add a horned helm on her head and arm her with a spear and what do you have? Broomhilda Ergo, the Vikings invented tin/alfoil......
