I see collars and cuffs all the time in the punk/goth culture. I wear mine sometimes.

I dressed up as a goth girl for Halloween at my office this past year.  It was fun and it was the one time that I was able to wear my thick leather collar in a nilla setting without so much as a second glance.  I enjoy wearing fetish type stuff, but most of my things would leave little to the imagination and a whole lotta bosoms in plain view.  LOL...  [8D]

But why wear "fetish gear" in public when it looks so foolishly out of place? We can dress elegantly and live beautifully, harboring the mystery of our proclivities and savoring them privately. I would rather that than become a t-shirt for a "lifestyle."

I've met individuals who unabashedly wear their "gear" out on the streets of the city. While they tend to be numb to the notion of how utterly absurd they look, it does not keep them from looking like (and being treated like) freaks by the general public.

In my case it's because I don't own any. I prefer to spend my money on evil toys.

Cuz you're older and your mind screens you from all the hotties who don't look at you anymore so you won't have to feel rejected.

Because we don't have to broadcast our interests by what we wear in public? Unless you feel you need to wear a uniform that shows the vanilla world what you are into, go right ahead.

I don't think it makes you less hot to be more discreet, either. I think it gives you a bit more class and taste actually.

I often wear a pistol on my hip, does that count?

Discretion to a certain point, but trust me, I've looked more like a classy woman in my leather corset and black skirt than a whole lot of well dressed bland women on the street not to mention either of the Olsen twins in the past three years and they cover themselves in fabric.

I am going to have to agree with you on that point!! And a leather corset and black skirt, I think that is classy; I thought they were talking about chains and cuffs in public.

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: Just out of interest why does'nt anyone where fetish clothing in public anymore? (1/8/2008 9:27:50 PM)

Well I've done those too, I think most things (other than tights and lame) can be classy if done well.

eevin -> RE: Just out of interest why does'nt anyone where fetish clothing in public anymore? (1/8/2008 9:44:11 PM)

Wearing it all the time takes away the special feeling of it all.  And there's people who just never understand and won't leave you alone when you're dressed like that in public.  Plus the term 'fetish wear' varies from person to person:  One person's fetish might be leather...another person's cotton.  So how do you know no one is wearing their fetish in public?

YourhandMyAss -> RE: Just out of interest why does'nt anyone where fetish clothing in public anymore? (1/8/2008 9:53:37 PM)

I personally think most fetish clothing looks horribly unflattering on most people, and I think it's a waste of money for me personally to spend any money on.

Hm, what age does that kick in? The David Berkowitz voice in my head is really wearing me down [&:]

Personally, i had to stop because i just don't have the balance to walk on vomit in platform heels... Doesn't anyone live by "If thy eye should offend thee, pluck it out" anymore??

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: Just out of interest why does'nt anyone where fetish clothing in public anymore? (1/8/2008 10:12:54 PM)

Trust me, if I could rip off offensive tights and exposed bra straps without dealing with trouble afterwards, I'd happily spend a few weekends doing just that.

Nosathro -> RE: Just out of interest why does'nt anyone where fetish clothing in public anymore? (1/8/2008 10:24:03 PM)

I think the closest thing I come to wearing anything different in public is a T-shirt that says "My other T-shirt is a Tunic"

Aneirin -> RE: Just out of interest why does'nt anyone where fetish clothing in public anymore? (1/9/2008 12:06:49 AM)

I got accused of turning up at a munch in fet gear, I always wear leather, even for art college.

MistresssAria -> RE: Just out of interest why does'nt anyone where fetish clothing in public anymore? (1/9/2008 2:43:17 AM)

I almost always wear it if I'm going out to a bar/club/event.........I live around a lot of sports bars though, walking by them is always entertaining.........I get a lot of drunken high-fives!  I like to wear what I have fun in!

Cops have looked at me kinda funny-like though!
