I applaude the mother teaching her son consequences. These days, far too many parents don't teach their kids about about consequences for their actions. However, I don't condone publicly humiliating kids for their misbehavior.

So the woman renewed the ad, even though the car had been sold already? How did this serve her son's best interests? It seems to me that she may have been basking in the glory of all the attention she received, and didn't want it to end so soon.

There's a good possibility that this woman has driven a wedge between her and her son's future relationship, due to this publicity stunt.

Why is this thread in the Humor forum? It seems to have more than enough depth for the Off Topic forum.

I agree that now this could actually be in OTD, but it's too late now.

I don't see a big problem with this. First of all the kid is 19, he should be buying his own damn car, then he can have whatever he wants in it. It was obviously in her name and therefore she has some responsibility.

If the kid drinks and drives and gets into a wreck, some insurance companies will refuse to pay. With the car in her name, and if her name is on the deed to the house, it is at risk. That is true whether he is 19 or 91.

And there is one other thing, the kid lied. Guaranteed. No passenger would leave their booze in the kid's car, that shit costs money, and is supposed to be hard to get for those in that age bracket, isn't the legal drinking age 21 there ? The booze was his, if it were anyone else's they would've taken it with them.

"No Ma, people are always doing that, bribe someone older to buy them booze and then leaving it in my car dammit !".

Yeah right.

i dont think she was wrong with selling the car she bought and gave to her still under age son. true he is/was 19 but hes still not allowed to buy beer. she made the rules (dont matter if she believes him or not) and wether or not he drank the booze/beer/whatever... no booze means none inthe car.. thus he broke the rules thus car go bye bye. my dad bought me my first car.. and hell buy me my second.. but im paying him bakc for it.. its hard for me to get a job cuz theres so little opening for a person my age. any rules he makes.. untill i own that car fully.. i have to go with.. no matter what. im 19 myself...only time i ever drink is when im home for the night and my dad says its ok. jsut thought id add my .02

Actually on the buying kids a car or not discussion, studies I've read (but can't remember so no link) show that kids who get jobs after school to buy cars have lower grades. In my family, cars are provided and A's are gotten. Works for us, so far none of us in the past couple generations have not gotten into top universities.

And no, we don't treat them recklessly or drink and drive.

I had an honors diploma and a 31 on my ACT. I worked during the summer for my car, and during the school year I focused on school. In fact, getting myself a car enabled me to get myself to and from the college classes (which were twice as much work as my other ones) that I took my junior and senior year... and I still provided that means of transportation to myself. If you're saying that working prevents getting good grades, bull. If you're saying that some people are too lazy to both have a job and do their school work, I guess that might be true.
