VadFarkas -> Photo of her 1st collar (1/10/2008 5:23:35 AM)

While I make collars for sale, I also agree with the folks in here that say
something made by one's Master or slave can have special meaning to them. However, not everyone can make their own collar, especially in metal. For them, there are other materials that are more friendly to work with. The satisfaction in wearing something made by yourself outweighs the flaws
that might occur in making it... besides it will be even more unique to you.
I'd like to share a new photo of the first collar I ever made. The leather came from an old broken belt and the hasp was bought at the Hardware store. I bent the hasp to conform better with her neck and used some brass rivets to hold it on. We added some leather backing because she was very allergic to metal other than gold back then. Luckily she can now wear Stainless Steel.Total cost was nominal but even after 30 years, she still wears it every so often.

it's quite beautiful.

VadFarkas -> RE: Photo of her 1st collar (1/10/2008 5:44:49 AM)

Thanks Lucy and G'morning to you too,
Yes the belt was braided and I thought it would be more unique than a flat leather collar.
I have to add that her dad had a leather shop back then and made English Saddles.
I used to go nuts in his shop and always eyed his customers for tell tale signs. [;)]
The hasp came from the cabinet section not utilitarian section of the hardware store.

Thank you and welcome to collarchat.
We used to have a matching leash. It was 3 feet long round tappered and braided. Her father made it for our "dog" but it was stollen. I really miss it, it was special.

BoundDragon -> RE: Photo of her 1st collar (1/12/2008 3:46:27 PM)

Wow... I really like that one... did the design just happen or was it planned that way?? Definately a work of art!!

Vampirate -> RE: Photo of her 1st collar (1/12/2008 11:47:31 PM)

Owww... *pokes it* Yea, I like it.

VadFarkas -> RE: Photo of her 1st collar (1/14/2008 5:42:49 AM)

Thank you all,
It became a plan after I looked at the broken belt and thought it would make a great collar.
Up until then she was wearing chokers that tied. Back then chokers were in fashion...
I miss those days. [:D]

Gemini1766 -> RE: Photo of her 1st collar (4/8/2008 4:37:10 AM)

Well now I have an idea for a belt I have, when it stops being a good belt. Nice!

abcbsex -> RE: Photo of her 1st collar (4/8/2008 8:49:45 AM)

hm... I have a belt that is breaking in back from being used for 5+ years... maybe it will make two nice collars! thank you for the inspiration! it looks like something I could get away with wearing day-to-day (my clothing style is kind of earthy/punk... if that makes any sense!)

TwistedLeather -> RE: Photo of her 1st collar (4/9/2008 8:01:54 PM)

i completely agree, it's a very pretty collar. And certainly, when made from your own hands, everything has more meaning. i have many collars, but the ones i favor are directly from my Owner's hands. It has more sentimental value than what it cost to make, or what i could sell it for. Great work!

Daddyslilpookie -> RE: Photo of her 1st collar (4/9/2008 8:03:49 PM)

Wow it's very nice, I love the buckle it looks very wicked[;)]

AtlantisKing111 -> RE: Photo of her 1st collar (4/9/2008 8:58:38 PM)

Wow!  That's a cool looking collar.  Nice work.

Corvidae -> RE: Photo of her 1st collar (4/10/2008 2:12:39 AM)

That is a lovely collar! How fun to have made her first collar, that must have been a special experience!
I definitely can vouch for the joy of making something for someone you love (or like). I make jewelry, and I get a lot more joy out of making something when I have someone special in mind that I am making it for.
=)

VadFarkas -> RE: Photo of her 1st collar (4/10/2008 7:31:07 AM)

Thank you all for the kind words and I'm glad I could give some of you an idea for something special to make.Corvidae,You are very correct in what you say, I feel the same way. I do my best on every collar, cuff or any other item I make. But when I'm making something for someone that has emailed me and told me some personal info about themselves, I feel more attached to what I'm making and it puts more meaning into that particular item. Who knows... maybe there is even some karma built into it this way. I have received email in regards to that. Anyway this 1st collar will always be special to us.

littlewolfe -> RE: Photo of her 1st collar (4/12/2008 3:36:49 PM)
