It seems like a lot of people here recomend attending munches and getting into these groups to help introduce yourself to the scene and lifestyle. And you make it sound so easy to find these groups, as if i could just open the phone book and find them listed somewhere inside.

How DO you find local munches? i did searchs on line, and the only goup i've been able to find in my state (not area, but entire state) is a five hour drive away. Are there special places, or special ways, people have of locating or introducting themselves to a Munch?

You can use google search or you ask someone on the boards, particularly if you've seen someone in your area talking about groups and munches. Master Fire was kind enough to give me my introduction to local groups and I've passed whatever information I could onto other people who have contacted me.

i would call or E-mail that Munch. Usually people who run Munches know where most eerything is located in the state or they can direct you to someone who does.

The Google search is what i did before, AquaticSub. But, as i said, the only group i could find is five hours away, in the Omaha area of Nebraska. Not easy to get into at all, especially since if i had a car, i'd still be spending half a day just traveling to and from to attend any event they had. (Of course this is also a reason i haven't participated in any of the SCA events since i relocated to this area for a better job option some years ago.) What i was wondering is if there's some way to find out if there's a more local group that just isn't appearing on any common search for Nebraska Munches.

Not really, I think your problem is your location.

In addition to contacting the people who run those munches, you could also consider starting your own - possibly with their help. It's possible that some of the people attending that munch are also driving five hours and would like something closer.
