A man who believed he bore the "mark of the beast" used a circular saw to cut off one hand, then he cooked it in the microwave and called 911, authorities said.

The man, in his mid-20s, was calm when Kootenai County sheriff's deputies arrived Saturday in this northern Idaho town. He was in protective custody in the mental health unit of Kootenai Medical Center.

"It had been somewhat cooked by the time the deputy arrived," sheriff's Capt. Ben Wolfinger said. "He put a tourniquet on his arm before, so he didn't bleed to death. That kind of mental illness is just sad."

It was not immediately clear whether the man has a history of mental illness. Hospital spokeswoman Lisa Johnson would not say whether an attempt was made to reattach the hand, citing patient confidentiality.

The Book of Revelation in the New Testament contains a passage in which an angel is quoted as saying: "If anyone worships the beast and his image and receives his mark on the forehead or on the hand, he, too, will drink the wine of God's fury."

The book of Matthew also contains the passage: "And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell."

Wolfinger said he didn't know which hand was amputated.

I'm thinking maybe both.

I think this guy has been watching "Evil Dead II" just a few times too often....

(I suppose next he'll graft a chainsaw onto his stump?)

So because thou art lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spew thee out of my mouth
                        Revelations 3:16

Unlike the majority of non-practicing, bovine pseudochristians -- frozen-burrito devouring, Wal-Mart shopping, unreflective, thirty minutes or less, instant-gratification seeking hypocrites -- this brave man broke through the barrier of lukewarm American life and made a REAL CHOICE..................the choice to avoid sin and live according to the dictates of his conscience.

Kudos to this fellow.

I see it didn't say in that biblical passage to microwave it. Does that kill all the evil in it or was he just hungry afterwards?

Off topic that reminds of the "Evil Dead" movies with the guy with the chainsaw for a hand. Maybe that was what he was going for? Who knows.

Ya know.....I know those Idaho boys aren't all that incredibly bright...but....I'm thinking (it's just a thought)....if the Sheriff truly had any doubt as to which hand was missing from this fellow....he could just have asked the guy "sorry...it's just a little crazy here tonight...can you hold my pen for a second?".

Whichever hand he reaches with....the other hand was the one in the microwave.

(It's a gut feel...but I'm going with it).

Wow.. talking about the Mayor of crazy town....

It takes some serious balls to hack off a body part, place on a tournquet, microwave the offending body part.. and call the police... I mean Dayum...

Usualy self preservation will keep your average crazy from hacking themselves up.. others not so much but themselves yes. *blinks a few times*

They need to excavate this dudes back yard... the profile of someone mutilating themself like that ( chopping off a evil hand) is usualy they *did something* with the evil hand and are now guilt stricken.

Even scarier though.

Gwyn

At least he had the decency to go crazy on himself and not harm others with his madness. Suicidal nutbars of the world please take note.

Unless Gwyn's assessment proves correct. Stay tuned.

No silly. tournquet first, good and tight for 1/2 hour, maybe 40 minutes, then whack it off. an important thing to know if your dom has a heart attack after snapping on the new smith& wessons...

And people tell me that religion isn't crazy.  It seems the more a person believes in this junk, the crazier they are.

Ah wells.  He was willing to cut off his own hand in accordance with the Bible.  I suppose that makes him a good Christian.

Come on that's like saying video games make people violent or people wouldn't kill without guns or bdsm makes people violent.  Religion wasn't the cause, the guy obviously lost it.
