CuriousLord -> Chat time? (1/10/2008 11:53:32 PM)

After reading what must be approaching half a hundred thousand posts, having written a few thousand myself, I feel I've gotten a taste of some of the people here.  I'm sure many others must feel similarily.  However, it's all been in posts; at times, I wonder what it'd be like to see some of the regulars and others on a chatroom together.

Has something like this been organized before, or strike anyone as viable?

Phin -> RE: Chat time? (1/10/2008 11:55:55 PM)

sounds like a plan to me, but then there are so many of us that get on at different times. you got your crowd that posts at work, the group that posts in the evenings and then you got the weirdos like us that are here at 3am posting...

CuriousLord -> RE: Chat time? (1/11/2008 12:02:08 AM)

Hey, I resent that!  Also, for the record, at the time I read your post, my clock had 2:59 AM, not 3.  Thank you very much.

Yeah, I guess the hope of getting everyone together at once would be sorta a long shot, but could be neat if we could get a fair number together.  I wonder what time would be easiest for most?  Seems kinda like the early evening on a Sunday or so?

CuriousLord -> RE: Chat time? (1/13/2008 2:11:42 AM)

Bump.  (Just because I feel it's a shame nothing's come of this.)

No chatroom interests for the board?

PrizedPosession -> RE: Chat time? (1/13/2008 2:14:05 AM)

woo insomniacs! and you could try getting the early morning bunch who check before they go to work around 5 am and the insomniacs who go to bed about that time could chat for a bit, maybe?

laurell3 -> RE: Chat time? (1/13/2008 2:15:58 AM)

I've thought about this before, however, the thought that comes to mind is some of the regulars that don't get along would be there too which means someone would have the distateful job of modding it.  But I think anyone here can make a chatroom, go for it and see how it goes!

okay, first i get a horoscope on another thread that says i'm insane, now i'm being called wierd....a girl just can't win around here lol.

i think the idea of a chatroom sounds fun, but think it would be hard to do.  that is what makes the boards fun...people get on at different times but their posts are saved so can be read whenever and responded to.

camille65 -> RE: Chat time? (1/13/2008 4:01:48 AM)

I think it would be a lot of fun to hold RT conversations with a bunch of the posters here.

It will never happen because people fear the lack of spell checker so don't want to be seen making mistakes. Also their true emotions may appear more clearly in live chat. There is no editing out comments later or posting another epic on how what you said before meant this instead of that. I doubt it will ever happen if it did it would be no better than the lobby because I think people act differently in different places but they are still the same people.

Too many people wanting to talk at once and vying for attention that was the lobby. My lengthy experience of chatrooms leads me to believe more than ten people at once is chaos, five is a more realistic conversation but even then it’s hard. What you’ve said is moving up the screen what others have said is moving up the screen, sure you can scroll but then you are missing new stuff being said and everyone is replying to one another.

I don’t think people are different in the two environments I just think it forces them to communicate differently.

What would be the criteria?  By invitation only?  Who decides who is acceptable to join the chat?

There have been times when i have emailed privately to avoid hijacking a thread only to be told i should not have done that, even though i was extremely interested in that person's point of view.  *shrug*

I have a channel on the bdsmnet server on irc, if anyone is interested in info.  It is a chat and download channel, and is available, there are OPS there most of the time, but it is a small channel so would pretty much be for the folks here if they wanted to use it to chat.

GoddessDustyGold -> RE: Chat time? (1/13/2008 4:57:18 PM)

*laffing*  I have loaded messenger for Vista on My computer and I can't sign into it.  I remember when we had a quick room set up to discuss a Las Vegas trip a couple of years ago.  I couldn't find the room, and someone finally had to post a direct link for Me to get into the discussion.  (Maybe they really didn't want Me to be there? [:o])
I am pretty helpless when  it comes to chat, and I am not overly comfortable with it.  I can just imagine Myself trying to get onto kc's channel.  She gave Me the info once and I was helplessly lost.  But truly, any of us can chat with small groups by prearranged plan at any point.  I agree that having an open chatroom with the forum posters could get crazy and everything already moves too damn fast for Me.  I can't deal with the rapid scrolling I have seen in the past.  Makes Me dizzy!
But if I do chat with anyone, let it be known, here and now, that I am terribly dyslexic at the keyboard, and I will not be able to edit typos.  So everyone would just have to deal with it!  And no teasing or citicism either!
To eyesopened:  I can't imagine anyone telling you that it is inappropriate for you to private message a poster for more information or to show an interest in a POV.  I get pm's all the time, and I am always flattered that anyone would find My words that interesting and take the time to write.  Some people are funny that way!  But I don't think the experience you had is typical.

You mean I could be arrogant, snide, superior, argumentative, semantic and always right... in real time too?

Sign me up!

I think this is probably one of my main reasons for the interest. I'm curious what some are really like in conversation.. free conversation, minus a set topic, a bit more informal and such.

heartcream -> RE: Chat time? (1/13/2008 11:09:40 PM)

When I first got here I hung out in chatrooms for awhile. They can be all sorts of things, I found. I had good laughs and learned all sorts of things. As I spent more time on the Message Boards, I would be so surprised when someone 'famous', lol would end up in a chatroom. I loved it.

There are a couple of people here I would adore to see in a chat. It is like they are suddenly closer, you can talk to them right away with out like, having to send them an email. You can say, 'hi'. You can also have a private IM within the chat.

I think it would be cool to see a bunch of folks from here interact in a chatroom. It would be a little bit like how on some threads, the OP is sort of done, or lost, and folks get chatting amongst themselves.

So, would you like have a special chatroom, maybe called, "The Boardroom"?
