Leather By Danny in Boston...excellent work..tell him what you want and he'll make it. Laser engraving, too. But wait a week until after the fetish flea is done. He's crazed right now.

If you are a bit of an artist get some leather and make them. www.tandyleatherfactory.com Tandy is a great place to start. There are so many ways to go. As a "first time" I'd go with stamped leather, get the 3/8" fancy alphabet set for $20, two or three belt blanks which can run from $9 to $13 each for sizes 1" to 1-3/4" and you would also need a mallet for $20. A hole-punch for $20 and a pack of snaps with the snap-setting hardware would do it.

You should get two-three collars per belt blank.

Once you have made a few easy ones, get some tooling calf, deerskin and rabbit skins and have fun.

In Utah, Tandy has stores in Ogden and two in Salt Lake City.

Have fun!

P.S.
Tandy also has some GREAT books on whip making...

Well Mandi that depends on what material you want.
I remember a do it yourself site called the Collar Factory that has different materials.
I have been making Stainless Steel collars for a long time as have others.
Happy Shopping!

Another really good resource is here:

http://www.saroftreve.com/workshop/projects.shtml

His collar plans are perhaps a bit more elaborate than you might want, but he is a great guy, very helpful and the stuff he sells is wonderful for beginners.

My advice is - if you want to spend a lot of money, go custom all the way.

Otherwise- go get yourself a good quality collar from a store like Mr/Mme S or Leather etc - you can have the lettering embroided/ engraved for a small extra fee.

Don't do anything online! Yeah, it might be easy but there are a billion things that need to be considered "in the flesh" . Type of leather - feel and sturdiness are important, there are stores that claim to be selling you a leather collar and what you get in the mail in leather imitation. Sturdiness of the lock - if you're like me and you like to pull/being pulled on - you want to put the collar on and give it a good tug. Quality of detail - minor scratches, bad dye, padding or lack of such.

Just take your time. Choose the collar, you can always customize it later. A crappy collar with your name on it will do you no good.
