cyberdude611 -> Bush: US should have bombed Auschwitz (1/11/2008 10:21:43 AM)

While on his mid-east tour, Bush stopped and visited a holocaust museum in Israel and he made the remark that the US "should have bombed Auschwitz."

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080111/ap_on_re_mi_ea/bush_israel_holocaust

Allegations continue to this day that FDR and Churchill knew about the Nazi concentration camp and the horrors occuring there but did not act to stop it.

Yes, but all we can do is try not to forget.

Including the atrocities that WE have done-anyone recall Dresden, Hamburg, Nagaskai or Hiroshima? Own own hands are not bloodless.

There's a book called, "What We Knew" by Professor Eric Johnson.

Read it.

Good to know.

Like, karma is a bitch. It always comes back around eventually-no matter how powerful you THINK you are. Arrogance often equals idiocy.

Might I ask what you are referring to, in this specific case?

Only time will tell-the wheels are still in motion.

I see.  That makes perfect sense.

Aylee -> RE: Bush: US should have bombed Auschwitz (1/11/2008 10:58:19 AM)

I would like to point out that due to the propaganda during WW1, a lot of the horrors and such of WW2 were discounted because of the previous false propaganda.

Let me see if I have this straight.  You're equating military decisions meant to win a war (which we did not start, you might "recall") and save Allied lives with an attempt to exterminate a whole race of people by starvation, forced labor, gassing, medical experimentation atrocities, and out right execution.  I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Allegations? This suggests there was criminal negligence involved. Even if they knew what was happening, what could they have done about it? Disrupted the railway lines, killed a few guards and a lot of Jews, socialists, dissidents, gays and gypsies that were interned and achieved nothing. The only way to close the death camps was to win the war and winning the war was never going to happen on a wave of emotion.

Genocide is genocide-no matter how. Let's not forget that Hitler's justification was that they were "enemies of the people". How is buring thousands of children to death any different-they still burned.

luckydog1 -> RE: Bush: US should have bombed Auschwitz (1/11/2008 12:09:25 PM)

The idea that we tried to implement a Genocide on Japan or Germany is simply laughable.  Demonstrating a total ignorance of what  genocide is.  And it is offensive to the victims and survivors of Genocides around the world.  If you want to call America on a  genocide, you can point at the Apache or hundreds of other nations of Natives.

He was correct, there are still very few jews in europe to this very day. Hitler was quite efficient.

Lots and lots of japanese and Germans however. Very inefficient. I can see the difference more clearly now. But wiping out,say 100,000 folks in an hour or an evening is still pretty good in the mass muder category.

Yes, a well conceived plan - kill everyone in the camp and the surrounding areas. Hats off for taking stupidity to an altogether different level.

'Doesn't matter. There's nothing the Americans could have done about it, assuming the will existed.
