I'm sorry but this whole choose the most qualified, best person for the job stuff is bunk.

Mrs. Clinton and Senator Obama are equally qualified (and equally not) to be their party's nominee for President. One of those two people will win the race. You might not like the candidates but the
voters in their party do.

It will come down to the numbers game. In the General elsection Black voters will probably go 90/10. If they go 70/30 for Obama in the Democrat primary, he wins. The Mrs Clinton's campain knows this.

Well I'd say the below given response is a valid demonstration for the sort-comings in the American voter....

Hence providinng us another whimsical hodgepodge of folley directed to elect yet another incompetent boob.

Live well sheep,

Hey... it is the system we have and it is not going to change this election cycle.

Mrs William Clinton or Senator Barak Obama is going to be the Democrat Nominee for
President of the United States, no bitching, crying, bemoaning nor hand wringing is going to change that.

The question will Black voters come out for one of their own, who has a chance to actually win or will they go for the white candidate? Mrs. Clinton is no better (or worse) than Sen. Obama so all of this voting to the most competent one, qualified one is window dressing.  So to all Black Democrat Voters I ask the question in the form of one of the great workers union marching song... "Which side are you on, Which side are you on?" Vote for Hilary, another white nominee. or Vote Barak and have the first African descendant. Without the Black vote Mrs. Clinton cannot win.

xBullx -> RE: Can blacks get behind Obama like the Irish & Catholics did for JFK? (1/14/2008 8:46:35 AM)

Well you are welcome to settle for mediocracy; I for one hopes every eligible U.S. voter comes out and votes for the best candidate....

I could give a shit about the superficial "bunk".

Howdy Folks,

It always comes down to a numbers game.   Speaking of Kennedy vs Nixon in 1960, it was not Kennedy that recieved the majority of the popular vote, it was Nixon, but Kennedy received the majority of the electoral vote.  Interesting isn't it?

I am going to, for the first time in my life register a Democrat, to VOTE against a woman.   I will cast my vote for Obama, for many reasons, oddly enough, the color of his skin is NOT one of them.   But the fact that this Clinton doesn't have a penis IS one of the reasons, note I said, penis not balls.   She has those.  Frankly I do NOT want a woman Commander of Chief of MY country.   And I especially do not want Hilary.

I wish you well,

Elizabeth

You do realize that Hillary is a Senator as well....

It appears you seem hung up on her being Billy's girl...

It is bunk because people like you settle for less. Try expecting more, and raise your bar of excellence.

Obama may not do a bad job, but I know Hilarious will. Most voters within a party do not know much about their candidate. Most voters are cheerleaders, like this is a football game and they are pulling for the winning team. Win at any cost, including their integrity and principles, if they have any.

Hopefully Obama will win the Dem primary.

It doesn't matter if expect more or not. I could raise my bar to Mt. Everest and it will not matter. Primary elections are popularity contests within the party. To para-phrase Nathan Bedford Forrest. "Ya need to get there firstest with the mostest"

Not sure what you`re getting at,trying to say or imply, but it seems a little condescending and borders on ignorant, ala Bill Oreilly or Archie Bunker.

FatDomDaddy, you said, and I quote: White Pride is a racist notion. Well, darlin', so is Black Pride.
If white people had a television network called White Entertainment Television it would be called racism, yet the blacks have the BET. If white people had a group that backed them for "advancement" and worked for their civil rights it would be called racism, yet the blacks have the NAACP. If whites had a college that catered only to whites, it would be called racism, yet do a Google search for HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) and you will come up with an abundance of places, one of which is Moorehouse College in Atlanta Georgia. On their website they tout:  Black Enterprise has listed the college as the No. 1 college in the nation for educating African Americans. The blacks have the UNCF (United Negro College Fund), do whites have the UCCF (United Caucasion College Fund)? Oh, hell no. THAT would be racist.
I work with patients that are black as well as white and have had occasion to speak with them as to how they feel about the intermixing of the races. I've had white women say that they would never want their daughter to marry a black man. And by the same token I have had black women say they would never want their son to marry a white woman. The white women were looked on as being racist by my co-workers. The black women were showing "black pride."
So, you see, racism isn't just a "white" thing. Blacks are just as racist as whites.
I would like to give Obama kudos for not playing the race card. But by not playing the race card, isn't he in fact playing it?????
You know the old saying: "it's not what he says, but what he DOESN'T say that's all telling."

I don't want to cherry pick the entire post but you are wrong.

Most Black Americans had their ethnicity taken from them. They don't have the German, Irish, Italian, Scots, etc etc pride most white peoples in America do. Nor do they have the Indian, Japanese, Thai, Mung, Chinese pride so many Asian Americans do. Asian and European immigrants into the America's can easily trace their ethnic beginnings, even if they cannot pinpoint them. Black Americans on the whole, cannot and I think the have beyond earned a pass for a bit of pride in their race, even as they, as a community, are growing out of the need for it.

Are there Black racisits? Sure there are but BET isn't., neither is the UNCF and while they may have a racist leader in Julian Bond, the NAACP isn't racist either.

So my question is...

With a viable and strong candidate like Obama, why aren't Black Democrats rallying to his standard like Catholics rallied in 1960.

We're, correction ( I can not speak on behalf of all blacks), I'm not going to vote for Obama just because he's black. Yes, some blacks probably will, just like some women will vote for Hillary because she's a woman. But, race is not the issue, finding the right candidate for the job IS. Obama is half white too, are you going to vote for him? So he's half black, big who-ha, now get over it, and look at his history, policies and stance on issues that matter to you. Are you going to vote for Hillary because she's white or will her being a woman stop you? Once again, look at her history, policies and stance. Does that leave Edwards your vote? This really should not be an issue at all. I'm not blind to the fact that for many it is, but I refuse to play the he's black/she's a woman card.

Ummmm, so by not playing the race card he is in fact playing the race card? Yeah, color me confused? Is this the same as "Damned if you do, damned if you don't?" No matter how he plays it, people will still see it as a race thing? I'm sorry but your above statement makes no damn sense to me; how can you give him kudos for not doing something you say he is doing?

Ok, tell me we aren't voting for someone simply based on the skin tone the light of day exposes to our naked eye.

I would have called it ridiculous to vote for Kennedy simply because he Catholic...

I'll do the same in this case; shouldn't we actually start voting for a President that we would think best serves the entire country and is a shining example of what we think mosts embodies the qualities and abilities we see as most important for the leader of the United States...

If being black is important, let's get a better suited American that happens to be black; Colin Powell seems to have gotten everything right in the past. Why in God's name haven't we yet asked him to be our future?

Couldn't we just start acting responsible as citizens versus doing all this impulsive shit for the wrong reasons?

From what I recall Colin Powell declined the offer years ago and said he wanted to spend more time with his family.

I completely agree. When the race pimps like Jesse and Al continue to act like they do, then they truly show they do not support their culture, but just their power within their culture. A friend of mine said that more and more of the people in his neighborhood are not listening as much to Jesse and Al, I just do not believe their power will slip enough in this election.

You'd be surprised how many blacks don't always appreciate Jesse and Al "speaking" for them, or just don't follow them like sheep or cattle. But, sadly, many don't vote either. I think having Obama run for president was a bit of a wake up call that got blacks talking, but then again, so much happened in '07 as well, that got blacks stirred up that Obama's run just kinda got sucked in, so in enters the race issue.
