Level -> Fired for lynching comment? (1/11/2008 4:04:41 PM)

CBS/AP) The Golf Channel is doing its broadcast of the Sony Open from Honolulu without anchor Kelly Tilghman, who was suspended for two weeks on Wednesday for saying last week that young players who wanted to challenge Tiger Woods should "lynch him in a back alley."

Tilghman was laughing during the exchange with analyst Nick Faldo at the Mercedes-Benz Championship, and Woods' agent at IMG said he didn't think there was any ill intent.

But the comments became prevalent on news shows Wednesday, and at least one civil rights activist, the Rev. Al Sharpton, joined the fray by demanding she be fired immediately.

"There is simply no place on our network for offensive language like this," Golf Channel said in a statement.

Should she be fired?

I must say I agree with geoff here, I mean it did not seem that there was any malicious intent in her comment, but if someone did not bitch about something, if every little comment made by everyone were not taken incorrectly by others the whole world would tip out of the appropriate axis and we would all slide off into oblivion due to loss of gravity and many other scary crazy things........ I voted No, but like I said someone somewhere will always interpret malicious intent in damn near any comment...... Hell I know people who would take a polite compliment to be a vicious attack on their personal style and fashion sense....... So yeah people will always pick up on any bit of negativity in a statement..... Such is life and the world stays in its appropriate axis and spins maintaining gravity and we are living.....

Edited to add: Sorry I know that seems quite cynical but for my mood for tonight it works and I am not changing it just apologizing in advance for my un-pc comments that I am sure someone may take offense to.....
