The real problem is idiot conservatives who oppose micropower in favor of Nuclear and Coal because they can make more money investing in large power plants that nobody wants and can't use.

Power plants serving the CA grid have had to be shut down during peak demand when the grid came within 5% of capacity, causing statewide brownouts - put any more energy into it and you're gonna start blowing transformers - that's the "emergency" they're talking about. This is pretty obviously a way to avoid brownouts or blowing the grid during a peak demand, such as a summer tmeperature spike.

Just pop a few PV's up ont he roof and hook them to your AC, you don't have to get completely off the grid, just take your cooler off - as the power source is  close to the demand, it doesn't affect the grid.

If you're local utility is halfway progressive, they'll make the modifications neccessary allow your meter to run backwards if you generate more power than you can use. Check with you local utility, a lot of places outside CA. are starting to offer it, it's a national problem, it's just coming to a head faster in CA.

the feds are suing Calif over the state stircker MpH rules. what a bummer.  at least Calif tries to be green!!!  more then i can say for the feds.

as to heat- on my visit to Chicago _ it must be nice to afford heat- any where form 72-75 was the temp indoors. im used to 60 day- 53 over night.  even at tha my heat bill is high!

capitalists must wake up!!!   what right would I have to enter your home and take a shtt in your living room?   well then - how is reckless pollution any diferent?

A) You have no right... and
B) The government has no right to take a shit in my house.

Reckless pollution, as you call it, is different because its not in my house.

At any rate, the government has no business going into my home and telling me how to live my life. If we think that about kink, how are personal choices like what thermostat setting we use, or how comfortable we want to feel in our own homes?

They're not telling you what temperature you can or can't have in your house.  They're telling you that if you want it icy cold, you're responsible for generating the power to do it.

The government regulates just about everything that goes into our homes; from housing codes and zoning laws when it's built, to taxation on just about every good and service you make use of.

Part of the cost of living with other people is restrictions on what we perceive as 'freedoms' so that others can also be free.  A well designed for 100 people can't service 10,000.

hmmph...  well everyone loves to call this country a democracy and now people whine because they are getting just that?  LOL

Maybe some day people will wake up and start calling is a republic again and then the government wont have that right :)

Nope thats the cost of democracy! Freedom!

Freedom is when the government regulates how you wipe your ass and what color asswipe you use and which hand you use and how fast you wipe it and then you will need pay the asshole inspector to make sure you got all the popcorn shells out and if you missed a cxouple that is a 50 dollar fine and then if you have the flu and the hershey shits well hey thats just to fucking bad because the government does not turn on the flusher till 6 pm so then you get fined another 50 bucks for stinking up the neighborhood!

Now thats freedom so others can be free too!

Dude! I need to get one of those!

The real irony here, is that all the spassing here is probobly the result of a Limbaugh broadcast - the liberals want to control out minds - Rush told me so it must be true!

lablancsecret -> RE: So now the kooks in Calif. want to control your thermostat (1/17/2008 1:00:09 PM)

I don't call the country a democracy. I realize if anything, its a republic or representative democracy. True democracies are more or less enitrely dysfunctional...

And I don't really understand why I can't be mad at decisions that I don't agree with? I can withdraw my consent to be governed (i.e. if I lived in California) by moving elsewhere. I can also voice dissent and vote as means to show my displeasure. All of these methods are entirely accpetable and within my rights as a citizen.

Also, calm the hell down man. Not everyone who disagrees with you is as batty as you try to make them out to be. Ad hominem attacks just make you look silly.
