felineone -> Privacy (8/26/2005 6:11:58 PM)

Hello everyone.. I received this from another message board, and tried it... it's very scary, and so i don't think i'll be posting here anymore. you do have to know the persons login name to do it, but it is true.
I have contacted admin here about this.

i dont know if A/anyone here is involved with collarme.com but i felt like i should share this important information. i found out, from a submissives group i'm in that collarme does nothing to keep their sight private from kids or from the web in general. Google's web crawler picks up everything on there, from pistures to private messages, all you have to do is google the name of the person!! i checked it out myself and its true. if Y/you value Y/your privacy, get off that sight asap and start writing letters to collarme and to google to get Y/your private information off of the web!!!!

Good luck!!!

I don't see the problem here. The only thing that Google can pick up is what each of us puts out. Now I use my real name, but I can't see where knowing someone posted under the name of Catwoman would bring me one step closer to finding her.

Now if someone is dumb enough to put an address or a telephone number in a profile or post, the Google search does expand the universe of people who may see it. The answer to that is remember "Anything you post on the internet people you don't know can see." That even includes websites that are identified only by IP addresses.

mnottertail -> RE: Privacy (8/26/2005 6:19:59 PM)

While I like a nice quiet life, I guess you can look me up in the phone book. What's the issue? Jesus H Christ that felineone is all over the net!!!!!! And I should give the glimmer of a fuck about that because? I don't see the problem unless you have posted your credit cards and home address here.

Remember, kids, at the end of the day.........

Ice Cream ain't got no bones.

edit: Jesus, John you type fast. Don't know how you beat me to that post.
I am amazed. Author versus computer geek for typing skills I guess.

greenie -> RE: Privacy (8/26/2005 6:21:27 PM)

ok i went to google and typed in my greenie collarme and all that came up were some links to collarchat and when i clicked on them they took me directly to the forum, not even into any of the posts. i tried a friends name and collarme, someone who has never posted on collarchat, and it gave me several links to collarme and when i clicked on them they took me to the home page and not that person profile.

dominmd -> RE: Privacy (8/26/2005 6:23:56 PM)

Don't care, if I am outed by accident, well I put myself out there to begin with. Screw anyone who has a problem with me.

Sorry, that is my Dominant side talking. So I still say screw them in the ear.

RosaB -> RE: Privacy (8/26/2005 6:42:33 PM)

I googled my nick, Rosab, it did bring me right to my profile and pic. Wierd. However, I didn't see any of my private messages as being available to viewers.

DesertRat -> RE: Privacy (8/26/2005 6:44:11 PM)

I've known about this for a long time, and it's not an issue for me. If you google my collarme name you'll find a hit that takes you directly to my profile. No big deal. My real name, ss number, phone...none of that stuff is there.

Every so often I do searches on the net to see just how visible I am. Not that I'm really worried about anything; just curious.

Bob

Welcome to the World Wide Web.

If you are concerned about privacy never use a nickname or email address that you use in your vanilla life.

Anything you post on the web, unless it is encrypted, is subject to being indexed and then 'googled' by the curious. There is no reason to panic - it is simply a matter of using common sense. If you want to protect your privacy, don't reveal private details.

My nickname and the email address I list are simply for my BDSM activities. I think this is a simple thing to do.

sultryvoice -> RE: Privacy (8/26/2005 7:56:19 PM)

I just did this myself..It said in the google blurb about me, age, city, state but when I went to the link to collarme..it went to someone elses profile..I did this 3 times and it went to different profiles and not mine. I'm not worried as I don't kow who would look for me under this screen name. My vanilla sn is different. When you put out anything on the web, it can come back to you..

Respectfully,
sultry

ModeratorSeven -> RE: Privacy (8/26/2005 8:19:13 PM)

I'm going to try to set the record straight and then lock this post.

First thing, no one can find you unless they know your screen name. So ending up on your post without knowing your screen name would be a fluke because they would have to google something that you've specifically said.

And even if they landed on your post, how would someone associate you with your post? Well they would have to recognise you, either by you writing your real name or having a picture of yourself or giving a lot of personal information about yourself. This is one of the reasons that we pull people posting their phone number or email addresses.

As for your personal messages, there is no way anyone can access any of your private messages ever unless you give your name and password to anyone. So don't.

If you wish to remain anonymous, then use your alias and don't put a picture of yourself up. That is good advice no matter where you are on the Web.
