Hi, I am looking to get my Dom something nice and special for v-day to add to our collection of toys
together we have crappy handcuffs, rope, the skrew tightening nipple clamps, one vibrator, beads, some tingle gel from spenser's... we're poor... lol
Ok, so my question is this - what would you recommend I get to add to this collection that is at or less than $50??

thanks!

Mmmm not one mention of paddles , i say invest in some high quality paddles , they are within your budget and a grand addition .

colored rope and chain is pretty inexpensive too and i think that is very fun....maybe put together a box of assorted toys and implements.  rope, chain, some nice barbque spatulas or wooden spoons, clothespins, etc....the sky is the limit and it doesn't have to be expensive at all.  how you present and package it is also part of the fun in a gift like that.

Nice cuffs. Crappy handcuffs, IMHO, are just trouble waiting to happen.

I would recommend that you don't invest in bdsm gear from spencer's, though. What they have tends to be overpriced and really low quality. For some reason, a lot of people seem to think that all bdsm gear is the same but you really need to shop around. Even the stuff that looks sorta decent at spencer's really isn't and you can do better online.

I remember being in one of the adult stores up in wisconsin. They had a "flogger" that consisted of a fairly thick wooden dowel for a handle (maybe 1" diameter) with a single very thin layer of some leather type material around it. It was solid around the handle to form the grip, and was cut into strips for the flails. Again, one single row all the way around, so it had a total of maybe 10-12 falls and a big hole in the middle. Utter garbage. The price? $80. I pity the poor person that bought that whip. Alas, that's the only store left on 94. The good ones are gone.

But beyond that, what to add sorta depends upon what you're interested in. I love floggers, so I'd tell you to go buy at least one of those. Maybe you don't. What sort of sensations or activities are you into or are you interested in trying?

From there, go hit the usual toy sites (The Stockroom and Sub Shop are two of my favorites) and poke around in the various categories and see what's in your price range. A quick peak at sub shop, for instance, yielded a tongue lash and a suede flogger that total about $52 (not counting shipping). Plus, they're in Racine, so orders would arrive really fast. Just don't buy some of their toy products, like the keychain sized floggers or something, since those really aren't for use, just decoration.

I would say that the best bang for your buck would be to buy some good rope and get Jay Wiseman's book on Bondage. You can see a review of his and other books on my website. With several lengths of quality rope and a good book, your bondage options are endless! It's like having hundreds of toys all in one.

Some Doms use almost exclusively rope for their bondage. Jim Mogul, founder and head Dom of the wildly successful (and SUPER HOT) The Training of O uses rope more than anything, and he has $$$$ to buy/use anything he pleases- I mean- sheesh- he bought the Armory in San Francisco, and now Hogtied and I think a few other productions are all moving there as well.

Also, if you are on a budget (as we are as well) you can learn how to make tons of toys all on your own for little or no cash. My website has many ideas on DIY bdsm projects (and there's more to come, since we're still adding content daily). You can purchase for a few dollars these nifty little things from the craft store or on line called "bodkins" and these make fantastic nipple clamps, and you can add bells or chain or weights to them.

Also, go to your local furniture store and ask them if they have any swatch books of leather that they don't need anymore. You can use these swatches to make your own floggers, gags, cuffs, etc. The pussy flogger I made cost me about $1.00 to make. The scrap of leather cost 50 cents, the piece of dowel was a couple of bucks, but it's long, so I can make at least four more floggers from it. I had the Barge cement on hand, the duct tape, the piece of pvc pipe and the pennies to weight the handle. Anyhow, I will have photos and a how-to guide up on the website soon.

Edited to add: my site is www.kinkycrafts.info

Insert standard warnings here about candles. Don't use beeswax (too hot). Don't use colored or scented candles, unless specifically designed for wax play (again, too hot). Oddly enough, don't use plain white emergency candles (they have plastic, too hot).

Birthday candles, inexplicably enough, I've found tend to burn very hot as well. I would've assumed that candles designed for children's cakes would be cooler. Go figure.

I haven't tried any of the drip candles specifically for wax play, but those are supposed to be nice. Barring that, my personal preference are tea candles. You can light them in advance and the entire candle will liquify in a what turns into a fairly convenient cup of molten wax. They're a bit difficult to pour, though (no spout). Blow 'em out and you can easily remove the wick from the cup, too. They're hot, but not unbearably hot (especially if you let 'em sit for a minute or so after blowing 'em out), and I've spilled enough wax on my hands and fingers over the years to know what they feel like. Plus, they're dirt cheap. You can get bags of 100 or so for < $5.

gorgeous1 -> RE: most worthy toy (1/14/2008 10:07:36 AM)

Little edit here: I was looking over my post and realized that I made it sound like the Armory was owned by the guy who runs The Training of O http://promo.thetrainingofo.com/g/craftmaster:revshare/4295/v/4/h/w but it's actually Kink.com that owns it.
