wankerforuse -> Why do human scientists seem to think that they are god. (1/13/2008 5:16:39 PM)

As i've just heard that in China scientists there have produced manufactured illuminous green pigs honestly.I don't know why humans just can't leave annimals alone. As we are all gods creatures but in no way are us humans in any shape or form do we have any right to think that we are God.As their is only one god and let's not forget that.

Competition.

If they act humble they get trounced, so they have to act as though they are perfect in everything that they do.

Playing God, not only scientists do that.

Sorry you can't plant that seed in that soil bed because only god has the right to spread life.
Sorry you can fuck your girlfriend because only god has the right to create life.

Who told you there was one God because some people think there are many different Gods?

My God says we are ok to create glowing pigs because otherwise he wouldn't have let us to stumble upon such knowledge.[8|]

You do have to relieze too, that not everyone believes in a god. And they more then likely don't.

Also my thing is.. Why did this god give you the intelligence to do experiments like that to pigs? It's kind of like some people think humans shouldn't be going up into outter space because god never gave human wings... But why did you give you the intelligence to make a plane or a rocket to go up into the air?

Oh well..

FullCircle -> RE: Why do human scientists seem to think that they are god. (1/13/2008 5:37:21 PM)

I don't believe in God myself really but was just pointing out how odd it is so many know what god does and doesn't approve of.

Unless you are talking to Mr Wanker maybe.

Well I can see that many time scientists are using animals to make headway on things that will be extended to human beings and be beneficial, however, I'm a bit clueless as to the benefit of luminious pigs?  Do you have the link?  That seems rather pointless to me.

kdsub -> RE: Why do human scientists seem to think that they are god. (1/13/2008 5:39:13 PM)

Unless I am mistaken God made the animals for our use... I don't think he put on any restrictions.... I imagine it is an experiment on how to transfer genes... or which genes do which... someday the lessons learned from that experiment or others like it may save your life or a loved one.

PS which is worse turning them green or to bacon.

It’s a publicity thing good research alone doesn’t always get funding so they make a few pigs glow to draw attention to their work. It’s introducing jellyfish DNA into pigs. There was a good reason for the glowing cat research and suspect this was done by the same people.

Unless people feel that scientists do this kind of thing for a laugh and a joke? Anyone that thinks that doesn’t understand why scientists become scientists.

Good enough reason for me.

I had this conversation with somebody this past weekend.  I pointed out that it always amazed me that an omnipotent super-being would give a rat's ass what I thought about it, or what I did.

Then I pointed out that the existence of God and the whole non-existence of God are equally unprovable, and there is no real point in watching the members of the God Squad and atheists argue.

Well if I was to say atheism is just another religion CL would appear for the next four pages. I think we’ve all had that argument anyway.

Actually, we already had that argument.

I think Atheists are as full of crap as any believer of any other philosophy.

Believe what you want, just dont insist it is provable empirically.

In truth this is the question I’m most fascinated by, I think all people are on all side of the debate. How on earth can you not be?

Whether the facts will ever be found is doubtful so as an agnostic you can probably always be right.

There are two kinds of truths: those of reasoning and those of fact. The truths of reasoning are necessary and their opposite is impossible; the truths of fact are contingent and their opposites are possible. Gottfried Leibnitz

Look at it this way....now, when there's a power outage in Arkansas....Elmer can yell "Kids....grab you a pig!!!!"

Incorrect.

Being "right" presupposed the idea that one has empirically proven the existence or non-existence of God.

An agnostic simply points out it cannot be empirically proven.

p.s.  For those playing the home game, being right means God or not-God are the right answer, being wrong means that God or not-God are the wrong answer, being uncertain means that God or not-God are equally possible or impossible.

CuriousLord -> RE: Why do human scientists seem to think that they are god. (1/13/2008 7:16:58 PM)

Live in fear of your imagination if you will, wankerforuse.  Some of us aren't so afraid.

Scientists aren't "playing God".  They're not "playing" anything.  They're doing their own thing, learning more about the world we live in, regardless of your superstitions.

Now you're getting into semantics.

I'm agnostic and I'm an athiest.  I'll agree that athiesism can be a belief system, like a religion, into itself.. if you say for certain that there's no God.

Me?  I say that there's no reason to believe in a God and that to believe there is with the reasons we have presented to us in this world is stupid.  But there's a difference between acknowledging that there's no reason to believe in a God- and acknowledging the evidence that there isn't a God- and saying to know something for sure (a belief).

Why, green eggs 'n ham, of course!

Meh.  It's probably an experiment into gene manipulation moreso than concern for the particular gene manipulated, but I'll confess not knowing the specific experiment this thread is on due to a lack of link..
