I have read a number of threads in the ask a sub forum on this subject and am a bit confused. As far as I am aware, my Mistress does not have any, but I just may not be seeing them for what they are. Would you Ladies please help me by giving me examples of what your protocals are and how I may better recognise them?

I think of protocols more in relationship to how you should behave with others in the community outside of your dominant's household. Each group has it's own ideas of what is and is not appropriate though some common ones are don't touch other people's things/subs/slaves, be polite, talk to the dominant first before the submissive. Variations of these abound.

In general if I can't agree with a group's protocols, I don't go to their events. So a group that required all subs or slaves to address all dominants as "master" or "mistress" wouldn't fly with us; but we could handle "sir" or "ma'am" because that's just an extension of being polite and Fox does that all ready.

In a household I tend to think of these more as rituals, rules, and general attitude.

Protocol originates from military order. Some people are into it, and some of us are not.
I am a high protocol Mistress due to my training in the military.
Some of the rules are as simple as do not talk to another Dom/me without my consent right up to how clubs operate as TheTammyJo was speaking of.
Protocol is simple rules.

I would say that some protocol is from the military, some is from etiquette of domestic staff, some is from fine dining, and a lot of it is from elsewhere.

What matters to most Dominants you meet is that you obey them above a protocol you read on the CM forum, I would say. If proper protocol is to call your Dominant "Master," but he wants to be called "Thomas," then calling him "Master" is not the right thing.

I would say your best bet is to be polite, find out what protocol is at the event you attend, and act in a way that would make an owner want to be with you.

No matter the origins, protocol is as diverse and different as the dominants who incorporate them. Some believe in heavy, strict, military-like protocol, while others adapt a level of protocol fit for their own lives. While some dominants love having complete control over a sub, I'm certain Mistress doesn't want to have to micromanage me by constantly giving me permission to use the bathroom, scratch an itch, or get a glass of water. It would be just too mentally draining to keep that level of intensity up. It just wouldn't be enjoyable to either one of us.

We just adapted what works for us. Mistress and I like some protocol, but to us, there is a fine line between protocol and micromanagement.

I met two Citizens of the Other World Kingdom on the same day. One might think they would follow and hold others to similar protocols. The first was glad when I inclined my head and said hello. She did not extend her hand. When I did this with the other Mistress, she corrected me. She extended her hand and said, "Take my hand and kiss it, that is how you greet a Mistress."

Be respectful to everyone, Dom, sub or vanilla, and people will happily educate you how best to treat them.
