Just checking... I'm part of several local kinkies groups and have just gotten back from the NELA Flea. How many of you all go to your local munches, gatherings, or conventions? Those of you that don't, why not? Those of you that do, what all do you go to and what do you get out of them? What could we do better as RL people to foster a bridge between our online communities and in-person ones?

My subbie and I haven't gone to any yet, but we are planning on it.  We just started to become more actively invovled in the lifestyle outside of our relationship and started looking around and found a bunch of resources.  I think we'll try to hit a munch or two and maybe a con in the next 6 months.

I'd definately like to hit Shibaricon at some point, problem is between work and school, trying to find the time to go.

I've been to Thunder in the Mountains a couple of times. Always a fun gathering. Also, I've been thinking about possibly going to Club Crucible. The pony events there seem like they'd be fantastic.

Actually, it's Camp Crucible, and if you're going, you need to sign up very, very soon if they haven't already stopped registration.  It fills up quickly and takes place the weekend of Memorial Day.  They've already got the "Countdown to Camp" on the site.  I think it's 129 days or something like that.  When I looked at it a few days ago, part of it was "sold out/registration closed."  They may re-open spots if people cancel, but it's worth checking out to make sure.  Daddy and I belong to the club in DC and it's great.  Same people (well the local ones), all really wonderful.

I go to the ones I can afford, really love, and usually local.  Since I've moved around some, that means I've gotten a pretty good exposure.

I go for the classes, the energy, the chance to show off cool clothes, and do those special extended public scenes you can't do anywhere else.

I also want to make friends, but that tends to be difficult for me and a more rare occasion.

To foster a bridge?  With small groups, the hosts should make a concerted effort to make everyone feel welcome and involved.  With larger groups there's nothing to do except make the event as smooth and legal as possible.

I go to ThunderintheMountains every year.  Have gone for the past 5-6.  I volunteer every year and always have a good time.   I've also been to DomConLA a couple of times (taught there last year) and the PonyPlayChampionships up in Minnesota (taught there too).  I've been to RioGrandeLeather twice (teaching again - seems to be a pattern!).  There's a womens group I'm involved with that meets monthly and I volunteer at a club and volunteer with a leather charity.  Going to cons and groups and events and all that gets me out of the house and gives me a social network and opportunities to learn and play.

My spiritual leather tribe usually makes the rounds of the Master/slave conferences. We just had Southwest Leatherfest this past weekend. These events have changed my life.

I highly recommend going to regional and national events. Your mind will be broadened and educated by doing such.

Actually my sub and I just went to our first, the Flea. It was alot of fun. I've been to a local munch many times but never gone to a play party. Unfourtantely work schegeduals and money concerns prevent us from doing to much.

Blast, I can't believe I called it Southwest Leatherfest. It's the Southwest Leather Conference. *rolls eyes*

I used to do munches, but not anymore. Standing around chit chatting about kink just doesn't do it for me. I attend a variety of play parties in the Austin area, to get a chance to see friends and play and dress up in my fetish wear. I've gone to Austin Rope Symposium (a rope conference) and the GWNN Bash (a local kink group's "bday" con) but haven't made any of the national events. I'm hoping to make Shibaricon one year, and Thunder in the Mountains, Black Rose, a few others. I love the chance to learn and meet people from all regions of the country.

I've taught at a few local gatherings and would like to have the experience to teach at larger events.

This past year, I was at both SELF (South East Leather Fest) and DomCon in Atlanta.  I go to the Atlanta Regional Munch when My schedule permits.  There is also a small group here in town that I try to support as often as I can at munches and play parties.

Munches weren't for Me either, speaking of play parties etc. Im hoping (fingers and everything else crossed) to start venturing out into the world of pony play later thins year, its one of My biggest fantasies, never thought it would be very easy though because I use a wheelchair and pony play looks very physically demanding, not just for thr pony of course but the rider-you -have- to be able to get onto and ride the pony cart and I wasn't sure a wheelchair would make a very good substitute.

But it appears there are ways round the problem. We'll see.

Personally, I attend munches, events, etc. on a local, regional and national level.  And have presented with some frequency on a local and regional level.

And frankly, everything interests me.  People interest me.  Their relationship dynamics interest me.  Their sensation play interests me.  The workshops/demos interest me.  Meeting and talking with friends (or making new ones) from all over interests me.

There are no munches in the towns where we live in MT or in AZ.  However, while we travel we go to munches in the towns we pass through on our travels.  This means we've made a lot of friends in several different states...MT, WA, OR, NV, and AZ.  We're often invited to park at someone's home in those towns as we travel in a motor home.

We do go to events when possible.  So far we've been to In The Woods twice and the event the Wet Spot puts on every Labor Day, both in WA.  We also attended the first Leather Reign in Seattle last spring.  We actually met at In the Woods a few years ago, have been together ever since, and hope to attend this year.  There's nothing better than a week in the woods with a bunch of kinky people.

Many of the munches also host an online chat night once a week or once a month.  That allows those who might live too far away to become familiar with those who do attend munches.  It also makes it more relaxing when those people can finally find the time to attend munch as they know some people already.

We love making new friends at events and munches.  We also enjoy the workshops and training sessions offered.  I thought fire play was rather frightening until i finally saw a demonstration.  After attending a demonstration on violet wands we bought one because we had so much fun at the demonstration.  Events and munches are great places to network, learn new skills, and socialize with others.

Master and I are currently trying to find any local clubs, munches, etc. to possibly attend as time and money permits, as we've so far been to none, which would you all suggest we try first? munches? clubs? parties? Master has made no remarks indicating he has a preferrance or a specific idea of what hes looking for, so I'm currently looking for any and all info. Just out of curiousity, is there a state by state list or somehting that would make it easier to find our local play areas and or munches?

I highly recomend SouthWest Leather  and Thunder  in Co .If i had bigger piles of cash i would be attending  and vending at so many more events  but i have a  very limited budget and have to save .all well worth it .

When I have a community to be involved with, then I do attend munches. One of my great hopes on this job search is to get closer to a bigger city where we can have some choices in the groups.

I do go to conventions, usually when KinkyBooks covers it and I'm working. I did go to GLLA 2007 though this past fall to sell books and because I think (hope) it may be the last one I can easily attend.

I'll be at Millennicon 2008 in March as one of their presenters/authors/game story tellers. That's more science fiction but I'll be bringing some kink there with my books and my slave in tow.
