'Bragging' has a really unpleasant feeling to me. Brag \Brag\, n.
  1. A boast or boasting; bragging; ostentatious pretense or
     self glorification.
Or some synonyms.

aloof, assuming, audacious, autocratic, biggety*, bossy, bragging, cavalier, cheeky, cocky, cold shoulder, conceited, contemptuous, cool*, disdainful, domineering, ego trip, egotistic, haughty, high-handed, imperious, insolent, know-it-all*, lordly, overbearing, peremptory, pompous, presumptuous, pretentious, proud, puffed up*, scornful, self-important, smarty, smug, sniffy*, snippy*, snooty*, snotty*, stuck up*, supercilious, superior, swaggering, uppity*, vain   All of that is the exact opposite of any self goal or any relationship goal.Distasteful.

Bragging comes from the Old Norse God Bragi--------who was a skald, a weaver of tales, an embellisher of act.........

Since most people like the embroidery of tales, far more than the mundane version.....

I just don't know how bragging gets such a bad rep.

I think most things are not inherently good or bad - all depends on the motivation behind them.

Agreed on the motivation behind it, and what I felt was not positive emotion but more of a potential one upmanship thing which seems to me a negative thing.Generally I see a difference between talking about accomplishments or wonderful things and crowing about them. The latter is just icky feeling to me.   Edited for the OP, you see my posts as coming across and polluting the boards with negativity because I spoke up about not liking the way you use the word bragging? You don't like people posting in a thread that you create unless they agree with you, that has been repeated behaviour from you and you need to realise that anyone is permitted to post on any thread barring intervention from the Mods. Please just block me if I cause you such angst, I may make a rare sarcastic remark but I do not intentionally go about causing dissent. Stay healthy and ignore that which overly disturbs you.

surprisingly i agree with you about that.

i would rather discuss about my accomplishments however i wouldn't brag taking full credit for them because i did have assistance and guidance from Daddy. He had a part to play in helping as well as critiquing my writing style for my reviews. they btw are getting noticed not only by the bands and their fans but other critics and radio stations.  it's quite humbling to receive a "thank you" from a fan or the lead vocalist's parents for a recent review i did for the band.

When people brag too much about something I often think, who are they really trying to convince?  Me or themselves?

Bragging in my opinion  is about about putting the focus on yourself,  asking for stroking of your own ego, asking for attentions from others.....  the  submissive/slave should be focusing her attention on Dom/Master in how to please him   in exchange she will earn  his praise and attention  if you have that type of relationship, the sub/slave does not need it from others

and to me  by seeking from others it can be viewed at disloyality and disrespect  to him that you are supposed to be serving  ...just my thoughts on the matter.

Since the word "brag" seemed to leave a bad taste in most every previous poster's mouth, I won't brag.  Instead, I'll state some facts:
Master and I are blissfully happy.
We both have well-paying jobs we really enjoy going to everyday.
We are both in good health and I continue to get healthier and steadily lose more weight.
We have set the wedding date as May 1st and will be going back to my hometown in WV for the ceremony.
We remain grateful for the blessings in our lives.

That's the short list of the big concepts and the things I'd "brag" about if "bragging" wasn't so disgusting.  WooHoo, we're so damn happy we have to sit on our hands to keep from waving at people.................luci
