ghitaPVH -> Does anyone know how to make a chinese dragon? (1/16/2008 10:04:06 AM)

Ive got 2 weeks to teach a group of cub scouts how to make a dragon for new years. Anyone got any ideas?

remember. Im a broke redneck with no craft type skills, and all supplies come out of my own pocket.....

How about table centerpieces? anyone got any ideas on chinese new year themed table centerpeices? that 20 rowdy seven year olds could make?

What materials do you want to use to make the dragon? You could use paper mache- make the dragons ahead of time, but that could really take a long time.

Since you're working with cub scouts, I'm assuming they're younger kids. How about making a dragon out of felt? You can trace an outline of a dragon onto some red felt and have them cut it out, then have them add little bits of black felt for the eyes and whiskers and claws. etc. Felt is really inexpensive. If you want, you can have them glue it to a magnetic strip to make a refrigerator magnet.

For centerpieces, you could get a few metal or glass containers, fill them with pebbles and stick live bamboo into them. Three bamboo shoots symbolize good luck or fortune. YOu can give the centerpieces away as thank you gifts to other moms who come to help out. For place cards, you can use fortune cookies. Write the person's name on a thin strip of paper, and stick it partially into the fortune cookie to keep it in place.
