                                             Human vs Animals
I sometimes look to the similarities between human nature and animal nature. One
could argue that humans are, in fact, animals. I do agree, just creatures that are part computers. As
humans, our higher thinking has collected over the generations and written itself upon our conscienceness,
as hidden deeper primal instincs are still written upon our subconscience. Human nature seems to be
a combination of higher ideals and survival of the fittest.

Fine-lined boundaries weave into every state of a human's existance. Our cultures have givin
us rituals by which we train our behavior into that which will be accepted by those that were trained before.
Follow the rules, and everyone stays happy. Conflict will arrise, however, when these higher ideals obstruct the
need of our instincs. Man must eat to live, but if he has no means by which to pay for his nurishment, he
will steal as any other beast to insure his survival.

Sharks, wolves, preditors; this we call those humans that will take the fore-ground and face
whatever opposition they meet. A fox is clever while a dog is shameless. Sheep trust and follow the
strongest lead, for their passive tendancies do not foster great leadership. Juviniles, elderly, infermed, and
the timid are all prey.

In the effort to better one's state of being, the human attempts think greater thoughts, build taller
towers, do greater deeds. In all this work, he stops listening to the pangs of hunger, the need to rest, even
the call to mate and procreate. The human feels he must conquer the need of his physical self to evolve
his mental and spiritual statis.

I wonder if the universe were to tossle the snow-globe of our world, and society were nothing but
a clean slate again, if instincs were embraced more heartily by humans, rather than be denied or belittled. For
all that the higher mind has tried to purge the ancient knowlege from our being, it has failed. Even in centuries
of the most piosed repression, the were-wolf was a true a being as the tax-collecter. Albeit, tainted grain with
the power of holucinaginics played a great role in this mass belief, it was still the human mind that was so
eager to embrace the idea of a creature that was half-man and half-beast.

And so the werewolf was granted a place in human records. Some years later the frightening image
would be replace by a reclusive fellow named Bigfoot, who like the instincs of man, was only ever to be hidden
far away from humans' sight.

It is interesting that by following the need for sexual unions, that humans will let other needs surface.
Generally these needs are called tabus, and hidden from plane sight. Dating, evolved from courtship, has replaced
mans' need to hunt. It also fulfills the need to see one's gene carried on to the next generation, if not seeking
to throughoughly populate the next generation.

I think that the calling of primal roles still fashion some of the behavior in modern humans. Alpha types
may follow impulses to marry earlier and establish themselves in their communities. While lone wolves exist
upon charges to challenge all, though take no responcibility for the pack that is disrupted. What might have
been an average pack member, now amounts to an average person.

Whew, that being said, what mythical thing do you see yourself as, were you to give your sub-conscience a form? what would your Dom/me be? Just wondering-   phoenix

Sheep trust and follow the oldest female of their genetic line.
Dogs are more dangerous than wolves or foxes.
And you've totally ignored the primates who we bear the closest resemblances to. Want to learn about homo sapiens? Study chimpanzees.

Chimpanzees are not that mythical, but damn interesting.

It's funny that phoenix wrote this because that is what i would be a Phoenix.  I rose from the ashes of my old life and live this new life with my wonderful Master.

I would have to go with a liger. Its pretty much my favorite magical animal. It's like a lion and a tiger mixed...bred for its skills in magic.

fairerthanshe -> RE: mythical beasts (1/17/2008 12:43:36 PM)

I've never thought about it that much for myself.  For SJ, I have always thought of him as a unicorn - rare, unique, magnificent, awe inspiring.

rubberpet -> RE: mythical beasts (1/17/2008 4:02:47 PM)

I would have to identify myself as Typhon, the legendary Greek dragon that is buried under Mt. Aetna.  My protective nature toward Mistress can be viewed as psychotic by many, but only She has the power to control that fury.  For Her, it's like having the power of the apocolypse in the palm of Her hand...limitless power, infinite fury, unquestionable wrath.  At the same time it's exceptionally trained, completely devoted to Her, and remembers his place at Her feet...the gentle giant.  In Her service and defense, the perfect assassin.  For Her love, his heart is full of fire and passion.  When his fury is unleashed, his eyes grow colder than an arctic blizzard.

I also identify with the tiger.  He is the perfect mix of beauty, grace, and lethal agression.  Generally mild mannered and prefers to avoid conflict or confrontation, but it's wrath is something no one wants to encounter.  My anger is like a tiger on a feeding frenzy.  It is 450 pounds of killing fury and will wreak havoc on all who do not respect it's power.  He is the ultimate in the wild and has yet to be tamed.

Well, this might be good news, or it might be bad news, depending on how you take it. Ligers aren't a magical animal; they really do exist. They happen mainly in zoos that house lions and tigers in the same enclosure. It's not often that they happen, but they do exist.

OldManCoyote -> RE: mythical beasts (1/18/2008 4:12:14 AM)

yea, ligers are very much real as a tigons.  Search wikipedia for either/both and you can read all about them. Also seraphim might be mythical, depending on how you wish to classify religious beliefs, but they are certainly not beasts; assuming that sereph = seraph. :)

And to answer the question, I would have to go with shapeshifter; wolf or coyote.  heh

Dryad.

sevenhillssub -> RE: mythical beasts (1/18/2008 8:40:13 AM)

Hmmmmm ill have to go through some mythical beasts now...cool thread :)

AnonymouseTC -> RE: mythical beasts (1/18/2008 10:06:14 AM)

Ligers are real?? Well dangit, Napoleon Dynamite has led me astray! I'm going to have to look at some pictures of ligers then...I wonder about their magical skills then...Hmmm...I'm going to audible and switch my choice to a Chimera then. Three animals in one, and it breathes fire which is cool. Granted, not the most pleasant of mythical beasts but still pretty kick ass.

subtee -> RE: mythical beasts (1/18/2008 10:09:33 AM)

F/R to no one in particular~~~

Is this the right forum for this topic/question?

phoenixinchains -> RE: mythical beasts (1/18/2008 5:51:42 PM)

i think it was the correct furum, though i had a difficult time getting my thoughts all spinning in the same direction the other day.
perhaps the heart of my question got lost in too many words up front, and then too little at the end. benodryl has that effect on me. but based on the replies
so far i don't think it was lost. relating yourself to a mythical creature says a lot on how you see yourself, relating your Dom/me to a mythical creature says a
lot on how you view Them. i find it fascinating myself,           phoenix

Gwynvyd -> RE: mythical beasts (1/18/2008 7:58:53 PM)

Very nice topic...

Humans have had thier instincts for the most part removed from there. It is very rare that a human will reconize things by thier instincts. It does happen though. Western civilization basicaly breeds it out of people in polite society.
I also think the Op is correct in it belongs here.. because it is interesting in how a sub or Dom/me would see them selves as this or that perticular creature because it does speak of thier charictor.

As for myself... I am a Dragon. It has always been what I have been associated with. The East and the West have very different ideas on the aspects of Dragons.

I much rather prefer the East's idea of Dragons as Celestial protectors and servants. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon  http://www.dragonologist.com/art/gold/index.htm I like the 17th one. She has a red banner on one of her horns. *smiles*
