My Heart and Prays go out to those in the path of Katrina. I was 10 when Camille went through and remember the destruction even today. I have family in Biloxi and New Orleans and know I will not sleep until I know they are ok.

Shy, thank you. And I hope by now your family has left the Biloxi area or sought shelter in the areas that they are taking them into. I and Master live just southeast of Jackson, actually considered part of Jackson metro area, and I don't mind saying I am a bit nervous with this one myself. We won't be directly hit as the coastline will be, but they are warning of high winds in excess of 45-50 miles per hr. and possible tornados spawning from it and damage to roofs and trees and power outages. Yikes! ! ! ! I just can't imagine all of that distruction. Again hope that your family is safe and sound.

I'll keep you and your family in my prayers.

Shy, like you, and I'm sure many others here, have family who lived in the path of Katrina. I was able to make contact with my family members and all are safe. They evacuated fairly early and are now living with other family members in the St. Louis area.

Let's all of us keep everyone of our fellow American's in our prayers. Let's all help our fellow citizens in any way we can.

I am suppose to be in New Orleans at a conference in three weeks, don't know if that will happen now?
I only know Feline, from that area. I hope and pray that you are safe and will be enjoying the comforts of water and electricity very, very, soon!

Given the fact that the levee broke and the lake leaking into the city, coupled with the expected loss of power for at least a month, I wouldn't count on that conference.

To say nothing of the rest of the damage.

:(

My friends and family made it out alive. They evacuated as soon as they were told so. They all lost everything as far as they know, but they cannot yet return to the city to make visual confirmation of this since New Orleans isn't letting anyone back in yet. The insurance companies are automatically declaring homes in certain parts of the city as totally gone, but a lot of them won't pay out until they have visual confirmation. My heart goes out to those who are stuck in this limbo, to those who have lost the entrapments of their lives, and to those who have suffered worse.

I've had the news on in the background all day, listening to this, and now some of the video is hitting the web. It's just unreal what's happened there. It's going to be Lord of the Flies down there if they don't get those people out.

I'm not a praying type, but if I'm praying for everyone in that part of the country.

And don't forget about the Miss/Ala. Gulf Coast. Those areas have been completely scoured.

I lived thru 3 hurricanes (inland) last year, and I'm hearing the Red Cross chief on TV now saying that the rescue/recovery effort will dwarf all four FL hurricanes from last year COMBINED. It's the worst natural disaster in US history.

KatyLied -> RE: Katrina (8/30/2005 3:20:56 PM)

All of you who stood in Katrina's path are in my thoughts. How strange that my area of the country is experiencing much needed rain and relief from drought conditions as a result of this.
I especially feel for those who are still waiting for word from their families.

My best friend, her husband and daughter managed to get away from New Orleans before Katrina hit, I have heard from her once since then, to say that "We're trying to get home" Then her cell went dead. I offer up my prayers to all those who have friends and family there as well as in Mississippi and here in Alabama.
This hurricane was the stuff that nightmares are made of and the video and stills that are being taken from the destroyed areas is heartbreaking.
From what I understand, they have no idea when they are going to be able to get everyone out and I cannot begin to imagine what those people are going through. I hope that those of you who made it out are doing at least okay.
We're keeping you in our prayers.

I know Indiana is a long way from New Orleans... But we would gladly open our home to some of homeless there now. Space is one thing we have lots of. It's gonna take months, maybe longer, before anyone can go back there. So many have lost everything and I cry for them daily. I just wish there were more we could do.

Shy, my thoughts go out to you, and they have plenty of positive thoughts from me. If they happen to cross my path, rest assured that they'll get the help they need.

shylittleheart -> RE: Katrina (9/3/2005 12:57:04 PM)

Thank you for the kind words some of you all expressed. I know very little of how things are there other then what they have shown on the news. I do know though my Mom is ok, baby brother picked her up yesterday and took her to his home. He was hit to but at least they are together. My others are in Biloxi somewhere, still no word. Being from that area and having so many aunts and uncles and cousins there, it has been hard. I know in time this will be just a bad dream for each of us. My prays are with everyone who has anyone down there. Never give up hope and cherish what you have for tomorrow it may be gone.
