Blocking posts (Full Version)

I'm discovering what I find to be a drawback in the CollarMe software. On other systems, I've used, "block" or "killfile" means that the posts of the person question simply don't appear when one goes into a thread.

Here the post headings appear but the post itself is blocked. This means I find I spend time checking the name of the poster as well as the title of the post before opening. It's not a major thing, but since some of the annoying flamers I have on block are prolific posters, it's a bit annoying.

I wonder if this is a system option or something that is hard programmed in. If it is a system option, I'd like to suggest shifting options so posts by those blocked simply don't appear on the screens of those who have blocked them. An alternative would have the posts still appear but be dimmed (already read) so they are easier to skip.

I don't object to anyone making as arse out of himself or herself on line; I just don't want to watch.

I agree. I tried blocking some obnoxiously prolific posters, and was bummed to find that the header, date, etc. still appeared, with only the text content omitted. I was hoping the blocked posters would be invisible to me. This isn't keeping me up at nights; it's more of a minor annoyance.

I do not have anyone on block, but if I did I too would prefer that the blocked person simply disappeared from the message thread.

I agree, and wish the name of the wankers would just not even show up, but they unfortunately do. M

I can see a reason for it though. Like usenet I can see where others quote parts of posts made by the bozos I've blocked; there are rare occasions where they seem to make sense and so I like to go to the original post to see it in its entirety. That is easy enough to do in usenet, but I dunno how to do that in a web based forum without leaving some evidence of those posts.

So I'm just happy the block feature exists, and when I see the names along side blocked posts I can actually measure the satisfaction I get from not having to read some annoying drivel.

I see no point in blocking anyone within the forums. It would affect the continuity of the thread. If the flamer is blocked & he/she gets a rise out of the next person then we would be in the dark as to what set someone off thus causing more confusion.

Much easier to just ignore a thread once the flames start or skim through them a little faster to get past the heat.

Who knows, maybe the jackass we would block today might actually make a valid contribution at some point in the future... unlikely, but I am a glass half full type of person.

I have to admit I blocked one person once.... and like MstrssPassion said.. someone got upset about what was said that I didn't get to see... you get the point here. I unblocked them... I admit it, I'm just to damn nosey to block someone.

I've never blocked anyone. In my mind that shows you cannot handle them well enough. Whether it does to other's or not that is the way I view it.
I'd rather ignore them on my own. Read what I want and ignore what I want. Works quite well.

Never blocked anyone anywhere. Thought about it a few times, but have never done it.

I either ignore them or post my say and never visit the post again.
